moving an attached feather duster

Can I get a feather duster off a rock? I keep trying to move things in my tank around some, but this feather duster is in the way. He is attached to a rock so I would have to move the entire rock. Is it safe to take him off and if so what is the best way to do it?

I didn't know it wasn't safe and I have moved mine quite a few times. Everything has been okay but I won't do it again.

She is talking about an removing an attached duster from the rock it is stuck to, if I am reading her question right.

That's what I meant too. I have pulled my dusters tubes off of rocks before.
Guess that wasn't the best idea.

You mean like a large soft tubed duster? I was thinking you meant one with a hard tube. My large, soft tubed duster is in the sand. I didn't even know they stuck to rocks.

The one I have was given to me and I just stuck it in the sand, gotta admit I don't know a whole lot about them!

I have a feather duster and he has been on the prowl the last 2 days. Moved clear across my whole tank and looks like he is growing another "leg". Right in the middle of his body a clear tube(looks just like the normal tube, but clear) has appeared and it appears to be even supporting some weight on it. I am trying to figure out if the thing is splitting into another feather duster, growing one tube to discard another? any ideas?

They don't grow new tubes they build them out of substrate.

I still can't quite figure out what he's doing as he moved behind a rock. They don't expel waste do they? It looks like a clear tube around the same diameter as the old tube..
I'll try and take a pic when he moves so i can see him better.

I had no idea there were different "tubed dusters" Heck I don't know. He was on the sand when I bought him and I put him on the sand, buried him. But he attached to a rock. He made a long tunnel like thing behind him under the sand and attached to the rock

Maybe you're right but I have always read on here that they build new tubes. I don't think they use CC they use other things they find in the tank, or maybe they even produce what they need to build the tube. I also read in a book recently that they build their tubes.

That's the same thing mine do. I think wax might of been referring to a hard tubed coco worm.

I guess that would make sense, otherwise I don't know how they would attach themselves to things.
