Moving My 65 G. Reef

Tomorrow is the day. I am moving out of my apt. and into a new house. Luckily it is only about 10 miles away. This is how I think I will go about it. I am going to wake up early and start bagging up all the live stock and corals. Then I am going to put all the rock in a bin and drain the water saving about 10-15 gallons of it. The rest of the water I will drain out down to the sand bed the same goes for the refugium. After that I will Take the tank apart and move everything over to the house and set the tank back up and add the water I saved with new water let it turn over for a while for a while and then add back the livestock.
Does that sound like a good plan? I have never moved a reef before. I wonder how long I should let the tank turn over for. Also should I add something to the water inside the bag when I bag up the livestock? I figure the coral and fish will be bagged up for a while when the tank turns over.
Anybody have some insight?

I'm doing the same exact thing June 2nd, moving from my apt into a new house, though my current tank is only 12 gallon. But essentially the plan is the same. I'm planning on keeping the water that I move the fish/LR/coral in, but I don't know if that's the best thing or not. I'll definitely keep an eye on this thread to see some other opinions. Best of luck with the move!

I did a similar thing about 5 months ago...only with a 130 gallon...
I only moved less than 10 miles also. I moved as much water as possible (90 % )and added a new substrate...I did have a small cycle in the tank though.Seems to me you got it covered.

I moved my 10 gallon across town to a new house at the beginning of the year. I took out all the rock and put it in a big plastic bin, and put in enough of the tank water to cover the rock, and put the rest of the water in plastic water jugs. I left the sandbed and a tiny bit of water in the tank. I bagged all the corals and livestock. When I got the tank set up, I used all the same water -- I let the sand settle after messing with the rock before turning all the pumps and equipment back on. I let it get to temperature/let everything look settled before putting the corals and livestock back in. It went fine.
Just bag your corals/fish/inverts like they do at the fish store -- gather at the top and squeeze down to trap the air, and secure it with a rubber band. No need to add anything to the water when your bagging them. Good luck -- I'm sure everything will turn out fine. :)

put paper towel on the walls of your tank and wet it with salt water and you can save most of your coraline thats growing on the glass (if your not one of the people that scrape it all off that is).

Personally I want most of that gone, since my little tank is acrylic it seems coraline spreads like a weed....I read somewhere that it grows twice as quick on acrylic over glass.
