moving tank tomorrow about 1/2 hour distance any tips on how to do it?
I figure i'll take the water in plastic tubs and the rock inside.
leave the sand in the tank and bag up the fish.
anything else i should do?

Should be okay...just make sure you keep your biological filter alive. Sounds like you have it covered.
Be careful with the sand....it is quite heavy and COULD compromise the structure of the aquarium once the tank is not level from rasing/carrying. Could develop a leak down the road or immediately. Sounds silly but if you have a really deep sand bed you need to be careful.
If I were moving the tank I would remove the sand to be safe. JMO

god i have to move in august:nervous: not looking forward to that!! i've been thinking about it ever since i set up my tanks, and i was planning the same route you're taking:D great minds think alike!
i figure that if the same water is used, and the lr/ls stays in the water it'd go alright. only problem is that many of those plastic rubbermaid bins have a filmy oil coating that must be washed off. i also was going to saranwrap over the top of the aquarium to prevent algae on the walls from drying up on the drive. for the fish on longer drives most lfstores will put straight oxygen in your bags for you. i personally use a 10gal tank on the passenger seat, glass lid saranwrapped on and blow cpr air to them once in awhile, but it sometimes gets splashy. i actually bought my 55 in melbourne fla and moved it to st. louis in the back of a pickup (w/topper). brought back tons of freshwater fish in it like this with 1/3 full. we sat it on 2 tires for cushioning and i won a $20 bet with my dad that it could be done.
ok, now everyone slam me on how stupid i was. i emphasize was.

edit: oh yes, i'd remove everything from the tank if you're doing stairs. just a sandbed in my 55 shifted tons of weight on me (i was on the bottom) when we did those. thank god it didn't break, must be a darn good tank.

No...keep it in water in a plastic tub and it should be okay. buy some of those cheap battery operated pumps if you think you need them

I move my tank 400 miles without any pumps except for an air pump in the 5 gallon bucket for the fish. Just put the water in lined garbage cans and the rocks in a rubbermaid. Also put the cc in a rubbermaid. Everything went very well. No new cycle.

Tank was moved set back up and the fish are back in. Everything seems to be fine and all water parameters are where they should be except for the Salinity. All stores are closed so i have no way of getting salt. lets hope these guys live over the night

I just moved my tank 2 weeks ago! I was so stressed to do it. I went to the LFS and purchased some of livestock bags they use to sell them out of and some rubberbands. I unplugged my filters first and emptied the water into the tanks, then I bagged up all my coral and used the rubberbands, I also blew oxygen into the bags with my mouth. I had about 8 bags not including the rocks that had coral attatched, I bagged them also. They were in the bags for about 1-3 hours and were fine. I then placed all the bags in a 5gl bucket and syphoned water from the tank in there just to the middle of the bag. I then took out the LR and placed it in a cooler and syphoned the rest of tankwater into that cooler to cover up all the rock. I then took out the fish and placed them in the same cooler. I did not bag them, the rock gave them some security. It s really important to save 75% of the water. thats what I was told to prevent any kind of new cycle. I have an 11gl. So when I got there Ijust did everything in reverse. I made sure all the outlets were fine first and checked the temp in the loc. I was going to put it in. NO CASUALTIES!!! THANK GOD. It was a great experience, the knowledge did me well!
