Has anyone ever moved a large tank or 2 across the country with livestock? Thinking about moving both my 225 and 90g tanks to Houston in a few months. I got some ideas.....But interested in hearing who has done it and how???

Thanks!

I don't think you can move a tank like that and have it live.
Stirring up the sand bed alone will wreak havoc on your system.
Unless you can set up a tank and have it cycled to receive your stuff you are kind of out of luck.
Sorry.

I'm sure it can be done! If well thought out and planned..It will be a headache, but I love challenges! Besides, I've stirred up the sandbed in my 225g FO a few times in the past with no ill effects.

i moved across town last year with a 220 and a 90.
I set up a temp 40 breeder and a temp 55 and then moved about 100 gals of water in a barrel. when i moved my fish and corals the new tanks were set up about a week.
I put all new sand in and then the cycle was short cause I had the old water, but everything did go to hell.
Let us know how it works out. Good Luck.

Plz do! I'm thinking a big Uhaul truck, Brute Trash Cans, and a powerhead or two, should do the trick. Also, coordinate the move (if you can) around the seasons. Ultimately, I would like to move in late winter/early spring. That way it's not to cold or hot while moving.

'bout 1/2. I think it was mostly a matter of transferring livestock from a very established tank to a new one. The corals and anems freaked out and I lost all but 1 RBTA.

Even with the water i moved, the tank was simply too new.

I moved my 125g about 45 miles or so. I did not lose any livestock(no corals). I boarded them at my lfs for a few days. I did add new substrate and about 80% of my water was new, as the movers would not transport all the tank water I had in trash cans...
I did add my livestock (snapper, eel, puffer, blonde naso, urchin.) I did experience a mild cycle process. Ammonia went up to 1ppm and Nitrites went up to .5. Just be sure to keep an eye on params, and dose using prime, alpha, etc., and do 10% water changes every week.
