moving.

I am thinking about moving about 1 1/2 hours drive and so i was looking for some advice. is that too long? how to transport them? any thing special i should do?:notsure: should i leave them inthe tank with some water left in it or bag them? thank you in advance for all the advise.

you are lucky, you have a lttle tank. I have to move a 55 reef, and a 65 reef in a month. My plan if it helps you, is to have a bunch of rubbermaid containers and keeping them separate put rock and some water in one and fish/critters and water in the other for each tank. Any loose coral on smaller rocks I will put in with the fish. I am going to try and disturb the DSBs as little as possible. I dont think they will be mobile long enough for me to need an air thing although I might pick up a couple cheapo air stones for while I am setting it back up. Thankfully I am only moving 20 minutes up the road. Actually have to crawl under the house I am moving into to tomorrow and see if it needs shoring up where the tanks will be.

thats alot to move.lucky its not far.if we end up moving it will be about an hour and a half drive, do you think that they will need something special for that move? What is BSB's? not sure what they are, and would the tank need to recycle after the move before returning the fish? still kinda new at this, thank you for all the advice,

I have never actually cycled a tank so i dont know if it will start over. The four times I have started a tank I just used LR and LS from the beach and kept the bioload exceptionally low for the first month, one or two fish at most. No noticable cycle. In theory if you keep the same water, same rock and same sand I dont see a cycle happening. My problem is my deep sand beds and trying not to disturb what lies benieth the top layer.

You should never move a tank with water and cc as you could weaken the seams and cause a leak immediately or in the near futer. Also, you run the risk of structure failure.
You should remove everything. You may be able to leave the CC if it is not too deep. It might be a good time to switch to a sand bottom. Take some of the cc and put it in sevearl mesh type bags. Place them in a bucket with you tank water . If you think it will be several hours before you can get things set back up buy a couple of the cheap battery operated pumps. Good to have around for power failures too. You can use the cc to seed your sand base. If you have a very light bio-load chances are your live rock and filter media will be able to keep your water parameters in check. Be sure to keep your filter media...if you have any in water with air if needed. If you have a 5 gallon bucket place one or two very small pieces of live rock in there along with your fish. Add the battery operated pump if you think it is needed. DO the same with your live rock. Keep it in water and add some aire if you think it is needed.

I forgot to mention do not feed your fish the day of the move or late the day before. This way they will not poop as much when transporting.
