For the past 3 years my family loads up the Jeep and we head south to Pawleys. If you have never been, you should. It's a beautiful get away and seems to me anyways care free. The natives and other visitors are nice and always say good morning, and it is just a nice spot to run to and admire Gods aquarium and critters.
On this visit, my Daughter and I had a Dolphin swim atleast 10 feet of us and we can see them jumping "breaching" from a distance. The girls went out on a Dolphin watching trip and the guys went deep sea fishing bringing home some chow. YUM!
We swam and went critter huntin, star fish rescue missions, and saw some purple tipped urchins, which is still a sensitive note for the wife since she so badly wanted one.
Got some pictures but the digital was drowned and the batteries died rather quickly. I had my 35mm Canon and got some but have to get them developed soon so I can post them.
Grab the beverage of your choice, sit back as we take you on a journey to the Carolinas.

Okay found the thread. Lets get those 35mm developed and posted up. I am so glad you could all get away and have such a good time. Pawleys seems more remote than Foley. I kind of like the hustle and bustle and close proximity to downtown Chaleston myself but still it looks like a nice get away place.

Meowzer: first and foremost, how the heck do you do the multi quote thing!?!?!? That wasn't a shark, it's a Dolphin. But on my 35mm I did get pics of a baby hammerhead and stood in the water with it. So funny watchin it hussle around the current trying to get it's bearings.
Sip!! It was amazing!!
Spanko, Georgetown is close by the town is very active with people. The pics here are at around 6 in the a.m. around the afternoon it gets busy. YOU WOULD LOVE IT. Promise.
Scott- the ideas I got are crazy...... just crazy.
All in all we did have a good time. It would be nice to have just an ADULT getaway with friends. Like ..........oh that would be gr8. Any takers?
Someday I hope to call this "home". I found it very hard to see the sun come up over the Ocean and not at sunset.

14 hours of sitting on my butt listening to my ipod. I hate the drive but it's so worth it!! This year we drove all the way through and got a hotel in Georgetown. The next day we went to the beach for a little bit then went to the shops, the grocery store for some grub, then the bait shop, then the house and unpacked then chilled.

Most people get out of the water when they see a shark. Not Kiefers, he gets in with it to photograph it. It was a small shark....but still
, a hammer head no less! The shark was intent on chasing fish but got close enough to Keifers that its fin scratched up the side of his leg.

My family has been going to Pawleys for over 30 years. I took a few years off when the kids were really little. Kiefers and I are trying to cont. the tradition as we all love it there. Spanko--I'm betting you could find lots of activities. It is 25 min. south of Myrtle Beach, Georgetown is 15 min. south, and Charleston is 70 miles. There is a ton to do around there if you choose to leave the island. We just love the island so much we rarely leave. We didn't even make it to Myrtle Beach this year--to much hustle and bustle for me. But my goodness it was HOT. Even the ocean felt like bath water. The island is quiet and clean, not so easy to find these days.
This year we saw the most dolphins we have ever seen. That was really cool. Everyday we saw at least one pod, usually several. In the picture above with Keifers, Paidey, and the dolphins, there were actually 4 small pods of dolphins by them. Keifer was snapping his fingers under water and one was curious and swam right up to them to figure it out. Of coarse, I didn't have the camera ready until it was swimming away! Paidey and I went on a dolphin watch tour. The boat ride itself was worth it. They strap you in and you straddle the side of the boat while your jumping waves--that was really fun! We got really lucky and had a "brochure" day, they said it only happens a couple of times a year. Water was very calm and we just happened to hit a large school of fish on our way out to find the dolphins. We followed the fish and in just a couple of min. a small pod of dolphins showed up and they called all their friends. You could see small pods (like 4-6 dolphins in each pod) coming 1/2 mile away in all directions. They were everywhere. We stayed with them for about 2 hours and they were still going strong when we left. Of coarse they ignored us and focused on feeding so it was difficult to get pictures, but very cool.
The first couple of days we were there they were lots of critters. I didn't want to collect anything that early in the week. Of coarse towards the end of the week, the currents shifted and there weren't alot of critters that were easy to get to. Such is life, tank is full anyway. My poor family though....the last 2 days I made them hunt for hours for a purple urchin. They were everywhere a couple of days before.
