Looks nice!
What is your current lighting? That clam may take over your nano if the lighting and water chemistry are adaquate....I'll soon be adding another for my reef...

well. remember its a 10 gallon tank with 8 watts per gallon. the guy at the store i got him at, who i really trust said 8 watts per gallon is fine. remember intensity plays a role too. he is about 12-14 inches from the lightwhich would have the same effect as a 250 MH 18-30 inches above him. all i know is that he is doing pretty well. what are some signs that a clam isnt doing well in a reef system?

I don't think the WPG rule is very usefull, because if you have a 1/2gal nano with a 9w PC light, then that would mean you have 18wpg. Not very helpfull.
You got me confused. How did you figure out from 80w PC at 12-14", to double the height, more than double the watts, and even to mh? To me it is more reasonable to say that 80w PC at 12-14" is about equal to 250w PC or VHO at 28-30", but not MH.
Maximas and Croceas are the most light demanding Tradacna clams too.

ok mr smarty pants bad example
. but yeah thats why i brought up intensity. i dont believe in the watts per gallon thing either. what does a gallon of water have to do with light penetration? if anything it should be watts per inch. but can you tell me how i would know if my clam isnt doing well? thanks for your input.

I never had one, but I saw a dieing one at my LFS. Not sure if this would happen to yours if it isn't doing well, but the one I saw just retracted its mantle, fell off the rock and died.
Do you dose phytoplankton?
