I'm looking to upgrade to a larger skimmer for my 210 in January and MRC(My reef creations) is one Im considering. anyone have any experience with the these ? one thing ive heard is that they require a large pump to run effectively.

they do require large pumps, but they are awesome skimmers. if you are not concerned with energy savings versus a smaller pump, then they are wicked skimmers

dont really know too much about them.
Have you looked at the new octopus extreme skimmers??
They are due out in about a week, and are testing out to be wicked. For the price, they cant be touched.

Peter...I am running an MR2R on both of my large systems..one at home..one at work. I feel it is the best skimmer I have used. Blows the organics right out of the water. My water change frequency has been cut in half since using them. I have only used their recirulating model that requires two pumps..one to feed and one to recirculate.
I have used ASMS (like them), Remoras (like them) and coralife (just OK)..the MRC is far superior to any of them IMO.

Peter....The two systems I have;
156 gallon display with 100 gallon sump/refugium, has MR2R on it AND
an older ASM 4
and
175 gallon DT with 75 gallon sump/refugium....MR2R and ASM 3
I felt that I could not 'overskim' so I continued to use the ASMs once I had
hooked up the MRs. I have not tried the MR2 alone on these systems.
BEFORE the MRs were added I had an ASM 3 and ASM4 on each system and removed one of the ASMs when the MRs were placed into service.
Hope that helps. My opinion would be that in a moderately stocked 210 you will be very happy with the MR2R.
Andy at MRC is very helpful if you call.

i love my mrc -2r on my 265 reef. Andy is awsome to deal with. The skimmer once its set pulls mud not a watery mix but nice thick smack your momma in the mouth mud
.
acrylic got me hooked on them.

guys i noticed its cheaper to get an mr3 (rated for 500g) than an mr2r. Is it worth the extra money to get a recirculating as opposed to a regualr skimmer? correct me if im wrong but do the mr-2r require two pumps ? if so, sounds like these skimmer will certainly run up our electric bill.!

Peter..Many people, myself included, feel that recirculating skimmers do a much better job. They do cost more (extra pump cost and electricity) but I believe you will be happier with the recirculating ones. Yes the recirculating models need two pumps....one to get the water into the skimmer (the feed pump) and one to recirculate the water.
Whether you decide on the regular or recirculating, MRCs are good skimmers.
Also you can get the recirculating one and set it up as a 'non recirculating skimmer. If you are happy with it..great. If not, Andy can help you easily reconfiurate it for recirculating. Just let them know that is what you are considering.

Have to agree....very nice skimmers.......You might want to look at the ATI skimmers, which again the ASM, ETSS, AquaC and such won't stack up against.....
