Mushroom Anenomes

I have recently aquired some beautiful mushroom anenomes. I was looking for hardy inverts, & my LFS clerk highly recommended these anenomes. They are beautiful (oranges, greens, & purple). I placed them higher up in my stack of live rock, as suggested by the clerk (about half way up the 2' high tank). My concern is that after 3 days the musrooms have not "opened" up yet. They are in the "closed" stage. Is this normal? Can someone please let me know what these critters like/need? I was under the impression that they are pretty undemanding.Tank chemistry = Nitrates are at 40 ppm, calcium level at 520(is that too high?) pH 8.3. Thanks for the help, T.T.

You nitrates are high...
What is you water flow, Lighting....
Do you add any supplements to the water?

Yes, your nitrates are high, your calcium can be considered high as well. I don't believe that the shrooms need so much light. They should have opened by now, I would think, but maybe the lights are too bright. Need to know lighting output.

Nitrates high?? At 40 ppm?
Water flow is high & lighting consists of 2 power glo strips & an actinic blue.

I read that mushrooms do not like to be in strong current and too much light. Mine did expand for a day when I got them but when I moved them up they remained shriveled. When I moved them down away from the light the started expanding again. All the while they were in no strong current.

It can take up to a week for them to open. They need to adjust to the different lighting and water quality. If they don't open after a week then start worrying.

Thans Tonka, Now I am just wondering if they prefer higher or lower light levels. I have heard that they like both, so I am am puzzled as to where I should situate them.

I just bought(2 weeks ago) some purple mushrooms and I put them about halfway up and it took about 5 days to open fully. And this is 110w PC 37g reef.

The wait and see approach seem the be the wiser & more patient way to go. Thanks, BTW, my nitrate reading is not 40 ppm, more like between 15 & 20 ppm (can't quite figure out where that shade of orange lies). T.T.

Teetee your gonna want your nitrates 0 if your gonna keep corals or you will have many losses and troubles your Mushrooms like a lower to medium lighting. as far as your Cal you shold be between 400 and 450 if you odnt correct some of these issues like Kim was speaking of as well you will endup spending money for nothing. goodluck, Missy
