mushroom cuttings

I have read you can grow new mushrooms by cutting them in halves or quarters, as long as each part has some of the base attached. Has anyone done this? How did it turn out? I have several colonies of mushrooms and would like to do this if it is possible. Do you need any special additives / equipment?

Just thought I would mention that this site has an information page on the homepage. They do discuss mushrooms there. The only reason I mention it is that is where I finally found my information. They do discuss starting new colonies by cutting in half and cutting it from the base. Anyway, you should check there if you haven't already.

I had a big fuzzie shroom ripped in two pieces by accident after a live rock avalanche. Both halves flourished. I doubt the cut was too clean, down the center.
