Mushroom Death part II

My LH posted 'Mushroom Death' originally. This is a followup question.
If the mushroom is dead, how will I know? I was told if it was 'melting' it was dead. They all look like they are melting when the light is turned off or if they are pissed (usually if they are brushed by a fish or moved).
Ours is a Green Rhodactis that we think was stung by our Leather Tree coral.
Attached are links to before and after photos.

Any ideas would help.

by leather tree do you mean "colt" coral? If so it shouldnt be stinging it. Colt corals arent aggressive.

I don't think your colt coral killed the mushroom. It looks like a hairy mushroom, and are usually pretty hardy. Its hard to tell by the pic you posted whats wrong with it cause its pretty dark.

Yes, I know everything shrivels up w/o light. To make this short for newcomers on this post:
Tank environment good: Salinity, PH, Temp, etc. Has been consistent for over a year.

Leather tree coral was migrating off its rock next to the Green Rhodactis.
Literally one day it was fine. Approx 6x4" when fully open. Had been for long time. The next day it looked dead. Only idea was that perhaps it was stung.
The below link shows both 'shrooms. One on the right is coming back but the one on the left is still shriveled and darker green from being contracted.

It is dead? How long till I throw in the towel. No slimy streamers are being emitted.

OK, So I didn't keep it short.
Sorry.
