mushroom issue

so for the past 2 or 3 days one of my umbrella mushrooms has been spitting up its guts so it looks. the small white stringy ball shaped things. its done this before, but always from the mouth and then retracted them within an hour. this time its been from the actual mushroom itself and not the mouth and they've been out constantly. the only thing that has changed in that time is i went from pc's to metal halides. i started at keeping the halides on for 45 min and increase that 45 min each day to acclimate them. all other corals in the tank are responding well to the new lights. theres actually another umbrella mushroom about 6 inches above this one and its doing great. the one thats spitting its guts is about 2 inches off the substrate, so i'm kind of thinking its not really the lights. however thats the only thing thats changed. any ideas whats up with it?

Mushrooms are pretty hardy, so I wouldn't worry too much. I had a spotted shroom that spit it's guts out a while after moving it from one tank to another with higher lighting, but it's doing great now and it's even split a couple times. Hope that helps.

its just weird that its coming out of the mushroom itself and not the mouth. maybe thats common?
ive never seen it before though.

Ahh, gotcha, didn't quite get that....that is weird. Dunno, I haven't had umbrella shrooms, so I don't know if it's particular to that type.

Certain mushrooms can shoot the white stringy stuff out from their bulbs. Mine always did that when stressed - clowns rubbing on them, some critter knocked them over in the sand and I didn't catch it for a day or two, me moving them somewhere else, etc. They are probably stressed from the new lights, but they will adjust to it eventually.

Nothing to worry about. Just stress and it will recover. I just stressed this one to show you certain types can eject through their spirocysts. It will get back to normal, the question is what is causing it. If you haven't touched/pulled it from the water, then you probably need to move it to another location. There has to be something bothering it where it is at, whether it is another coral, LPS close by possibly or a worm, shrimp, etc. fooling with it from time to time. If all your other mushrooms look fine then it may just be a location thing.
