Mushroom Leather started shedding?!?

I have had this mushroom leather for a few months and its grown double its size in those few months. I noticed the past 3 days, its still standing up and everything like normal, looking very healthy, except it didnt have the polyps? standing up out of it. Today I came down, still standing up, and otherwise looking normal, except it has pieces like a layer of skin coming off the top of it. I figure this cant be good. What exactly does it mean?
BTW just did my weekly water change yesterday, all params are good.

Mine does that occasionally, too. It will sit like that for a few days and then be back to normal. It doesn't seem to follow trends in any water quality or lighting issues, it is seemingly random. I cannot explain it for you, but I can say not to be worried.

Don't leathers sometimes shed their mucus layer? Maybe that's what it was?
