I have one pretty good size shroom in my tank, how do I get it to reproduce or start more little srooms?

If you find some way to irritate it like shading or strong waterflow it will crawl out of the way and leave little "bits" behind. This is referred to as Pedal Laceration I believe.

I cut mine up with a scissors. You can "decapitate" it, and the stump will grow a new head, and the head will re-attach. You can also cut the head into pieces and attach the pieces to some rock fragments with rubber bands, or place them on sand and move them when they get bigger.

So they're basically like Aptaisia. I can cut the flower part off the pedestal, the cut up the head and place the piece to grow anywhere else? I'll try the exterme water flow method first, I don't have the heart to just start cutting it up yet. Thanks for the tips.

This is what Bang Guy is talking about.......all I did was turn the rock so this shroom was on the side with very little light, and he crawled back to the top toward the light, and he left behind a new shroom.:) I have turned it again, and hope for more.

once you get a group of mushrooms growing together like crazy, the overcrowdedness will cause ethe mushrooms to migrate away from each other and when they move they leave bits of their stalk or foot behind, each of which grows into a new shroom, and you guys are right, it is caled pedal laceration
good luck

Hey, I just looked, and there's another climbing back up.......got these red guys about three months ago, maybe four, and they have went from two to six now after this one splits.:) You can see where he is splitting at the arrow, and the piece he is leaving behind is where he was......in the dark spot he didn't like.......soooooo, he moved and left a new guy. Of course it would be quicker to cut them up, but a natural split is alot cooler in my opinion. Your choice, and they are very easy to cut. I like to wait it out.:) OH BTW, the little shroom above the one splitting here, is the little splotch being left behind in the first picture I posted in the thread.:) There's a few months between the pics.

My shrooms really exploded when I let the nitrates get up to 20 ppm. I don't think it was a coincidence...they had stayed pretty quite up until then. Now they are moving all around and getting really big.

Great Pics Sammy! I learned something new as well. I knew about the decapitation process but I didn't know about them leaving a little bit of themselves behind!
