I have a purple mushroom that is almost the size of the bottom of a soup can. Do I have to frag it? If I don't will it split or just keep getting bigger?

It will attach on its own, they can get pretty big.I have some that are as big as a grapefruit or a dessert plate(as reference). You can frag but you dont have too.

Most of the common types will only grow to a certain size....in some conditions they can get rather large but I don't beleive they'll continue to grow....and as for "splitting" they don't actually split but instead they'll make new young uns....

if the shroom has 2 "mouths" u can cut is w/ a new razor and where it was cut will regenerate. i've never seen a shroom split, but deff have little babies. they just drop them lol.

Yea the process is called "budding". Where a little shroom starts to grow from the base and eventually move off it. The shroom doesn't need to have two mouths to be fragged as long as u get a piece of the mouth and base u should be absolutely fine.

One mushroom I got from the lfs looked way to big for my 29 gal tank. I've been watching it for some time waiting for it to become king kong of shrooms!!! Truth is it stayed the same size and just started to grow a second shroom!!!

I don't maybe its me but i use a power head aqua clear 10 I believe. Its small it was out of my 10 gal fresh. Any way I use that on my shrooms to make them move when I see that they are getting big. When I put it in, I pointed at the bottom of the shrooms and a couple of days they will streeeeeeeeetch out and leave a "foot print" on the rock and poof a baby is born. I have seen were some reefers will take a razor and cut the foot when its stretched out, I don’t want to cut unless I’m really going to frag the whole shroom. I have had great success with this technique. Once they have stretched out moved I take the power head out and let the new babies grow and once they are a decent size I do it again. Great way to fill in a rock. Once the rock gets covered I place another rock next to it and turn on the power head they spread to the new rock rather quickly. If you want to get a shroom off a rock I found that if you turn the rock over the shroom will stretch out to break thru the sand. They are easy to pull off if they have not let go already.
