Mushrooms + lighting ???

I bought a rock of mushrooms about a month ago. The mushrooms were doing very good under the 110w pc and 30w actinic I was running. Last week I changed the 30w actinic for a 96w pc with a 50/50 bulb. I was so excited to get the increased watts, however, the mushrooms do not get big like they did under the other lights. They are shriveled up on the rock. Is there such a thing as too much light for mushrooms. I have them up high. Thanks for reading.

You should slowely aclamate the corals to the new amount of lighting. You are probably burning the coral by quickly putting it over 96wts of PC, compared to 30wts of Normal Output lighting. I would slowely aclamate the corals to the lighting, by leaving the 96wt PC on for 4hrs daily, and slowely increasing it 30 minutes every 2-3 days. This will give all the corals a chance to adapt to the new lighting. Note that the 110wts of PC will be on for the regular amount of hours daily.

i agree that they are probably in shock from the lights. My contact has mushrooms thriving under 4x96w PC's but there is such a thing as too much light. Anywhere above 450w is prob too much.

I disagree. For any photosynthic species, I personally do not think there's such thing as 'Too much light.' Our aquarium lighting doesn't even come close to comparing with the sun. As long as the coral is slowely aclamated to the lighting, it can easily live with it. A lot of people say that some softies can start to burn if they're kept under high amounts of halide lighting. As I said before, as long as the coral is slowely aclamated to the lighting, there's no such thing as too much lighting.

Yeah no such thing as too much light. Have you ever tried to measure the amount of light that comes from the sun.. LOTS OF LIGHT!! Almost anything that is photosynthetic uses all the light you can give it. Also yeah, move the shrooms down towards the bottom. Listen to these guys (well, most of em) and you will prosper.:D

Learn something new everyday! I stand corrected. What are your guys' feelings on the 45 deg angle to let them open and close to how much light they want?

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I started today with a different timing for the lights by leaving the new 96w on for 4 hours only and the 110w on all day. I will move the shrooms down lower tomorrow. It's great to have a place like this to get answers.
