Mushrooms on Live Rock.

Hi, I'm new to this very exciting hobby.
So I bought 3 more LR's today at the LFS, The worker was too lazy to remove 3 mushrooms that was on the LR.
My question is will the mushrooms die?
I have a 24 gallon tank, 25 lbs of LR,. 40 lbs of LS, 3 lbs of CC and Natural Ocean Water (shipped from Half Moon Bay).
Protein Skimmer, HOB, (with LR's and a sponge as the filter) and 2 Power Heads.
The tank is going on day 3 today.

More than likely they will die. But, there is a chance that they survive, they are very tough. After your tank cycles keep up with water changes, and get some decent lighting. I do 10% a week. HTH

more than likely no mushrooms can be pretty hardy. is ur tank cycling? as long as u dont get a really big spike i think u should be ok. i did a water change while my tank was cycling just cause the amm. got pretty high and didnt want to lose some of the stuff on my LR.

It's a purple and green mushroom, Don't know the name or type.
Do they move around the tank? How will i know if it's dead and do I throw them out of the tank once they're dead or keep em in?
Amonia is at 0
Nitrite is at 0.3

If they die, they will turn to a mushy mess. But they also might come back too.

I forgot to mention that the SG is 1.028
So taking them out of the tank would be a good idea then.

Leave them. IF your tank is mostly cycled they MIGHT live. If they do not nothing lost. :) If you bought pre cured LR it might be near done.
I have heard of people speed cycling tanks to proper parameters in 5 days. Though they used stresszyme or something similar to seed in bateria. I hope they live. Gl with them. Freebies are freebies

EDIT: Pruple and green mushrrom. Kinda dark colors and is it on tonga branch LR? If so it might be a tonga mushroom. Usualy ~$10 a shroom at a semi LFS.

I would also leave them and just see what happens. You say your salinity is 1.028? I think this is a bit high, you should be 1.024-1.025. To bring this down just take a bit of water out and put in new water no salt though and see what the reading is.

Bojik, The LR I bought are Fiji rocks. The LR that the shrooms are on has plenty of purple coating on it. While the other LR rock has yellow, green and purple on it also. This rock has lil star fish roaming aound the little holes. I also saw a brown looking centipede dart out from 1 of the holes when i was putting the LR in the tank. So I guess they're pretty much cured compared to the other rocks in the tank.
Debbie, The SG is past 1.028.
So how much saltwater should I take out, and is bottled water safer than tap water?
I read that distilled water works great.
Here's a pick of my 24 gallon tank going on day 4.

Here's a shot of the mushroom.
They seem to have expanded since I put the precured LR's in yesterday.

Looks like a green hairy mushroom???
As for the salinity, you say it is past 1.028.... :scared:
I would take 1 gallon of water out and replace it with 1 gal water "no salt" and see what your reading is.
Bottled is better than tap, distilled is better than tap. All the folks here recommend RO water. What did you use the start the tank with?

I used Natural Sea Water.
I mentioned the SG level to the guy at the LFS and he said that NSW usually runs high especially in the warmer regions durign summer.

Thanks your input btw. :happyfish

I have those same shrooms. They grew out of a piece of LR that I started my tank with. I now have about 10 of them and they are as big as 4-5 inches across. Beautiful mushrooms. Hopefully they will make it.

Bojik, Yes so far they're growing and expanding when i have the lights on.
I've noticed 2 other things growing on the other precured LR.
the 1st thing looks like sack of something? and the other is like several branches growing. Here's a video clip of the 2 new things i've seen growing and a shot of the green purple mushroom going on the 8th day of cycling.

Check out the 2 pix I posted early in this thread and compare them to the video clip.

Not sure what the prnaching thing is. Thats not something i've comeacrost before. The ball thing looks like it might be a type of sponge.

My tank is about a month old now and the shrooms are still alive and doing fine. So far I have 2 false Perc and 1 small striped damsel. I went and added a sally ligth foot crab yesterday.
So last night I went to check on the new resident crab and low and behold I find a little red hitchiker crab hiding out inside a small hole on the LR. The crab has never show himself until I put the sally light foot inside the tank.
So is the lil red crab good or bad?

The video didn't work for me, has he got pointy claws or rounded claws? If rounded good, if pointy bad for corals. probably a red mithrax crab...I don't know can't see it Boo!

Update on my old 24 gal Jebo tank.
Replaced the HOB filter with a HOB Refugium.
Upgraded from 130 watt PC's to PFO Acrolights 150 MH 20k XM with 2x 65w coralife actinics. For Flow i have 1 Koralia #1.
BTW, the mushroom survived and grew out about 3 more. I traded them because they expanded way too wide.
I just bought a new Canon S3 last wk and here are of my recent shots.
Orange Aussie Acan.

2 Macro shots of some Aussie Acans.
