Mushrooms on substrate

I got some ricordia's about 3 weeks ago and have been trying to find a good place for them. I had them on a piece of rock before I left town 5 days ago. When I got home they were on the substrate. I haven't seen them better looking than they are now. Are they ok there? Will they continue to grow new polyps with just the substrate to hold on to? Thanks. Lance.

Any mushroom will do fine in the subsrtate (you might mention what you have...ie sand, crushed coral etc :D ) they may get dislodged by an over zealous fish swimming to close or to much current. Likely though if the current is not strong enough to move the "substrate" you will be fine. Additionally if you wanted to move them in the future you could always glue them to a piece of live rock taking advantage of the substrate they have attached to for a gluing surface (to make it easier). Just use one of the many superglue gels available for propagation or PM me for a list of what I have used.

I'd put him back on a rock and leave the rock on the substrate if he likes it down there. I thnik the rock just kinda stabilizes them and protects them. I had a blue shroom detach and he stayed on the sand for a little while, but eventually the current drifted him into a hole in the lr. He never returned. Any type of super glue gel works great. I'd secure him.

I used to worry over things like that, too. But my attitude now is "survival of the fittest". Not that I don't care of the tank, just don't worry over every little thing that goes on in there. I say let them be in the substrate.

I hear you guys, but it is his first coral. Pick him up and glue him down. If my tank was completely stocked, I'd let one shroom wander, but it's your first coral and you paid good money for it. Go get him.
