Folks,
I just thought I want to share this page I saw on the internet. This one's a protien skimmer showdown "CPR Bak-Pak vs AquaC Remora" Who will win ! (see link below)
<a href="http://www.thereefweb.com/protein_skimmer_comparison.htm" target="_blank">http://www.thereefweb.com/protein_skimmer_comparison.htm</a>
P.S. Let me know who you think wins by replying to this post. Enjoy ! (I'll keep my verdict for the meantime).
ciao,
Ray.

Very interesting to read that Ray.
I agree with what they said - sort of like comparing apples to oranges.
Sorta had a feeling before even reading the results that the Aqua-C Remora Pro would kick the CPR Bak-Pak2's butt in performance.
Still - worthwhile reading for those of you out that interested in hang on the back skimmers.
Thanks Ray !

Once my tank is established, I plan on discarding the Eclipse hood, building a canopy with two PC lights, and adding a hang-on skimmer.
Question...Can those Skimmers run without a refugium? I guess I don't understand how the "plumbing" works on the units?
Anybody have time to explain? <img src="graemlins//urrr.gif" border="0" alt="[urrr]" />

SaltyJay18,
I have been running Aquac Urchin right now in my sump for about 2 weeks. I have read this posted article above and decided to buy one. So far so good. I very satisfied. Its quiet and that darn thing keeps on skimming .. it never stops and very clever.

Cool, I am also worried about room in my sump. I plan to take the bio balls out of my wet/dry and place the skimmer in that section. It measures about 8" Wx 8" D with about 22" of height to work with. Got enough room?? This is one reason i was looking at this model.
if you dont mind, can you email me with location and price?? jcarlton8@msn.com
thanks again hermitcrab

22 inches in height ? Make sure your water level is below 12 inches otherwise Urchin will "drown" (I'm not sure about the pro model).

Oh the water level is yet to be determined, defintiely not over 12 inches. I'm worried about it not even being 4" the way the wet/dry is setup. Might switch to a 10 gal tank/refugium like yours. Thanks for the email by the way

Looks like there's some kind of glitch with this post. It keeps getting put at the top even though its two days old! Anyway, hey hermit, i bought the Urchin saturday. Cant wait for it to get here! Thanks for the info

Hello everyone, This is my first post, so if I do anything stupid someone let me know.
I have been running the Urchin for a little over a year. I bought it for its simple design and low/almost no maintenance. My only problem with it is it's difficult to clean the injector port, but looking at the web site it looks like they have made this task alot easier.(when I bought mine, there were no access screws or cleaning brushes). I've only had to clean it a couple of times. It is a great skimmer.

I've been using Urchin (sump version of Remora) too and so far so good. I had it for over a month now. I didn't have a chance to clean it tho but so far no complains.
ciao. :)
