My 180 cracked, I was able to save everything except 1 or 2 fish. Tank cracked from the top and it was one huge crack straight to the bottom. Everything is in buckets, ect. Sold most of the fish, hopefully I can sell the rest of the fish tomorrow. The tank cracked yesterday last night. The crack is 27-28 inches long. Here are a few pictures of the tank. The duck tape saved me! It cut down 80% of the flow coming from the tank.

That really sucks, makes my 10 gallon leak seem like nothing, did it cause a lot of damage to the floor or other things?

If anything ever happens to my 225G...I sure hope I'm home....we already have a plan on what we would do in case of a leak...I keep extra totes around, and we have some others that can be rinsed and used if need be....my main concern would be getting the fish and corals into something and covered with water..
then I would go and buy a new tank....LOL....probably a 150...something I could actually reach down into.....and work on myself if I needed to
CK....What would we do w/o duct tape LOL

yeah man your tank was gorgeous. The hard work. As young as you are working your tail off for all that then a crack ends it all really sucks.
Glad you're staying in the hobby!

Any idea why? Tank slightly off level, bad seam, tank not square?
Looks like the same tank I had. Poor design, quality and workmanship. Oddesea tank... My tank was sooo light, I thought it was an acrylic tank for a long time.

Excluding overflows, there are literally only 3 parts to a tank, the glass, the braces, and the silicone. No tank manufacture actually makes their own glass (they do cut it), all tank manufactures use the same GE RTV108/3 silicone, and all tanks basically have the same bracing.
This leaves a few things, quality of assembly, and user error. Admittedly I didn't think of the glass thickness being an cause, and could be a 3rd cause.

Look closely at his tank, It looks like the front left and right corners were round. So that means that tank has 3 pieces of glass. That design, is significantly weaker than a more standard design. I know the one I had, it was light enough for 2 people to carry it up 3 flights of stairs. But it was glass. That is crazy for an 180 gallon tank. I know for a fact my tank wasn't user error. I've seen about 5 or 6 people with those tanks locally and online, and well I can only think of one that didn't fail. But I lost track of that one.
