Picked up 60lbs of cured live rock for my tank today, got home and on the 1st rock I was going to put in the tank I found these (2) seastars about the size of a dime... I thought I had hit the jackpot, made everyone come look at them, running around the house, yelling come look!...felt like a new father. I have no idea what they are called, who cares, it's my first hijackers!!!!!!!!!!! they were kinda whitish.....I feel so weird, I want more!!!!!!!!!!!1

I'm like a kid in a candy store, just found my second set of Hjackers, they look like some kinda feather dusters, again about the size of a dime, the rocks are just loaded with them, they sneak in and out, what do I feed them? 1 rock must have about 30-40 of them on it. The shop I bought them at is only 10 minutes away, so ran outa the store, broke a few speed limits to get home, and in the tank they went....I took a cooler filled with water from my home tank to store the rocks for the trip home so they were never dry. I wasn't prepared for this, feeding new critters that is

The stars will eat algea.. if they are astrina stars... are all their legs the same size.. or are some like different sizes?
As far as the feather dusters go pick up some photoplankton and that should be good

Funny, when I was a docent at the Waikiki aquarium, the term "Starfish" would have gotten you ridiculed and laughed out of the program, echinoderms are not fish, even thought Marriam Webster still list them as such. But, I guess in your infantine wisdom you were aware of this....................Amazing how people jump on the chance to rain on someones excitment, I guess it's a reflection of society

Sarno, wasn't you... Your advice was needed and I will follow thru with what you said.....It's just that I see a lot of people who pounce of newbies and when your learning everything you can, as I am, you kinda take it personal... This is my 1st reeftank after years of FO... I see a lot of ego's on this site, guess I'm no better

hey, no problem. There are many who pounce on newbies however I dont think anyone in this thread was being rude, we were just messing around. The whole saltwater thing can be very overwhelming to newbies so I just wanted to keep it fun. I was REALLY overwhelmed in the begining because there is just SO much to know, and if it werent for my public library, and this site I dont think my tank would be looking quite as beautiful as it is. Just have fun with it, take your time, and read up.. you will be fine..
anyway
I forgot to mention before.. if you are doing a reef tank, the astrnia stars have been known to do some damage to your corals however some argue that they dont. I know that I have at least one in my 29 gallon reef tank and I just leave it be because I haven't noticed any damage, but if anything ever looks like its gettin pestered you may want to find the stars and remove them.
Just keep that in mind :)
