I did the same thing for my son with a 10 gall. I switched the lighting schedule and used it as a night light (covered it during the day). Having a heater may be a good idea, temp changes in that small of a tank would be fast. Speaking of heaters (house, not tank)--you still need it on? I live in WV and it was close to 90 today, the low last night was 71--yuck!

Wow, it's good to see someone else has a 2.5g nano. I thought I was about the only one! I can't get 10 hermits in it comfortably, I have 3, a scarlet hermit and 2 that a family friend caught at Ocean City from the fishing pier, which we did add and they are doing great. We also have a cerith snail and an orphaned cleaner shrimp from a friend's broken tank. I wanna geta few more snails, the one we have does a good job, but it's getting to be too much for him. I only had gotten the one snail and the crab at first, not wanting to put too many critters in it. A lot of people have told me not to put anything in it but zoos and things like that. My bf wants to find a small clown to put in there, but I think that it's too small of a setup. We are looking to expand to a 10g here in a few weeks.

looks good!
What lighting did you go with?
What size heater is that where did you get it?
I also have a 2.5.
I thought I might mention this to all you 2.5ers. A little off topic...
I was looking for an alternate way of covering background( Besides painting, and that plastic paper that always fell off my bigger tank). So I read somewhere someone using black, or blue felt for background, and using double stick velcro to fasten it. When I was shopping at super walmart I went to get a piece of felt. Right beside it was this styro foamy paper in various colors, black, dark blue, light blue. And it had a sticky back for 50 cents. Needless to say I tried it and could not be happier fit great! And looks wonderful. Just an idea you all you others.

update::: i updated the hood by cutting a hole in the sides and fitt another coralife mini power compact florecent 50/50 10,000 kelvin, so now i have two thats 20,000 kelvin 50/50 also moved the starburst to the left side for better viewing. will be getting this weekend a mini colored fan worm along with some bulls eye mushrooms. the heater is a mini from petsmart for $11.99 i . i set it to kick on at 72 degrees, there is a dial on top i like my tank between 72 and 78. i also have a fan hanging over top to regulate heat and yes its hot and muggy here in ohio so it ony kicks on once in a while at night, will update with waaaaay better pics when i get the new stuff and borrow my bud digital camera this weekend.....chris
