My 28 Gallon Nanocube-Some Photos

Thought I'd post some photos of my tank. At present, it's only LR, LS, 4 hermits, a ton of snails, mushroom (been in there 2 weeks now), zoos (bought Saturday) and maze brain coral (bought Saturday).
Questions:
The guy at the fish store sold me some PhytoGold S to feed the brain coral & zoos - what's your opinion on that and best way of feeding??
I also have Liquid Reef but haven't put any in the tank, do I need to start using that?
I bought a CUC of snails, should have been 20 dwarf Cerith, 8 Florida Cerith, 4 Nerite Large, 5 Nerite Small and 2 Nassarius, when my package arrived there must have been 100 dwarf Cerith, since I have no other tank and didn't want them to die, they are now all in my tank and as far as I can tell there are no dead snails at all, they all lived and are moving - the whole package - is this going to be harmful?
I have no fish yet, but would like a couple of clowns or some type of peaceful fish-easy care - suggestions please.
I have a wayward mushroom that is behind my LR- I would like to move him, what's the best way?
Here are the photos:

This was taken right after I put them in the tank.

Most people get standerd ocellaris clowns! They are very cute the way they swim....its kinda like a dog waggling their tails! Very hardy and related to the damsel family i believe....you could get one or two but no more as they will end up fighting!
Wat size is ur biocube? Wat kind of supplements r those?
Sweet zoos btw! Those can be real addicting ive come to find out!

My tank is a 28 gal. and I was thinking of clowns, never knew there were so many kinds of them.
The PhytonGold-S says on the bottle: " 4-10up phytoplankton suspension for soft corals, clam, sponges and other filter feeding invertebrates.
The Liquid Reef bottle says reef building complex for coralline algae, corals, clams and other marine invertibrates.
Not sure which one to use or if I should use both. I'd appreciate advice on that.
I did about a 15% water change on Saturday and then on Sunday morning tested:
Salinity - 1.023
Amonia - 0
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 0
PH - 8
CA - 340 - Low
Phosphate - .25
After a little reading and seeing that the calcium was low and phosphate high, I dosed the tank with the 1 & 2 bottle of Calcium/PH/Alkalinty and will retest today.
So far that's about all I know to do. If you have any other help for me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Calcium is about the only thing i know that people dose for....unless ur Ph is way down and u need to temp buff it with some buffer.
Theres also no real need for u to dose that phytoplankto crap. Its used for like feather dusters and clams, ur coral will simply eat off the waste from your fish and when u feed the tank....all the food thats not seen will disolve in the water if that makes sense. It is a good thing to have at least one fish in a reef tank for this purpose! So go out and get a fish....sry to say this but i think your LFS just sold you that stuff to make a buck!
If you do dose that coraline stuff maybe do it ones a month....in small dosage. Better safe than sorry imo.

I have to admit, I thought I was getting suckered with that phytoplanton stuff - sounds like you're giving me good advice. I'll be hitting the LFS tomorrow for that fish and some fish food. Thanks!!

No blue damsels or yellow tail damsels or any kind of damsel!!!!! They will become aggressive and pick on ur clowns!
My suggestion for a 1st food would be PE mysis...if thats not avaliable than get H20 food or rods is the best!

Just a little update, I went to my LFS and decided to get some marine epoxy to hold together my live rock. I had a little accident happen. Nothing hurt or damaged but I knew better than to not glue the rock together. So I decided to take care of that like I should have in the first place before I bring home any fish. My LFS has a few beautiful looking tomato clowns. I do believe that will be my first fish. I'd like to have 2 eventually and then a Goby or Blenny and that will be it for fish. Does all that sound doable??
My skimmer should be delivered Monday too. Moving along slow but sure. The parameters on my tank seem to be good:
Calcium - now at 380
Phosphates - close to 0
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 0
PH - 8.1
After my glue job, I'll post another photo.

Clownfish are in the damsel family
but i do agree that the remainder of the damsel line contains some very territorial and aggressive critters, and seemingly the prettier they get, they get meaner.
If the OP would like some clown fishes - to keep things simple he should get a pair of the same species. Mixing types can be very difficult as most clowns do not care for other species of clown at all - with fighting till death quite possible.
Also - people dose for many trace elements like iodine, magnesium, and others - but small regular waterchanges with a descent salt mix automatically replaces these elements as they get used up. And it's NEVER good to dose for somthing without testing for current levels first. For example - too much iodine will cause shrimp to molt faster than normal, resulting in very short lives and incomplete/poor molts. In most simple reefs and fowlr tanks, element dosing and testing is usually a mute point, as good waterchange habits keep the levels right automatically.

Just an update. No pictures though - I have to take some. My little JBJ protein skimmer came in yesterday and I hooked it up when I got off work but I have a question about it if anyone knows the answer. The collection cup does not appear to come off. So when I have to clean it out do I turn the unit off and remove the whole piece of equipment?? If that's the case I'll have to do that everytime I do a water change too. I'm afraid to get to rough with it because I'm not known for being real gentle with things and don't want to break it.

PS - Fish this weekend for sure - I'm gonna start with a Goby or a Clown and see if I can take some of the snails out and bring those to the fish store. There are too many in my tank.

Meowser answered my question for me about the skimmer!! and I thank you much for the quick response. It does come off, I just have to be careful. And just to let you know, it's working pretty good.

A few more pictures as an update. Some slight rock rearranging and I have finally added a couple of clowns and a cleaner shrimp. I don't think I'll be doing much more for a bit, but when I start again, it will be to add some corals. I'm wanting a leather toadstool for one. I also want to change around/add to my live rock - I have a picture in my mind that I want to create. I'll leave the big pieces where they are but I want to change how the rock sits in front of it.

I always seem to catch that reflection.

They are both eating well and seems like they're doing good to me.

One more:

My cleaner shrimp who sure has had me laughing.
I'm very excited about getting the fish and the shrimp. What a fulfilling hobby.
I'm having some problems with temperature. Living in Florida and even with our AC set on 75 all the time, it gets hot in the afternoons. I'm going to try turning lights on from 7am until Noon and then from 6pm until 11pm. Leaving them off during the hottest part of the day. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I'm trying to figure out how to run a small fan across the water, but it's a closed tank and not sure how to handle that.

I've been in the forums everyday and have gotten great answers on some of my questions. I am going very slow with my tank, but had to update this. My son came to visit and brought me a present.

Not to mention, the one little mushroom I had in there originally is finally reproducing and has a baby coming off of it. My zoa's are doing good too and this little clam that came with it is alive and well.

All and all I'm happy!! Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll be adding a pulsing Xenia. One thing at a time is my motto.

Hi, the fish are awesome!

I want to give you some very good advice. Do not allow anyone to purchase critters for your tank without your express say so on what the said critter will be. You need to research everything you put in the tank and friends and family just have a habit of seeing something cute and bringing it to you. Let your family and friends know and if they want to contribute, to ask you first...you don't want any surprises....EXAMPLE: What if your son had brought you a not reef safe fish? What if, between the time he last saw your tank, you had already purchased clown fish?
Thankfully, all is well....but like I said, it could have gone wrong fast. So far, so good, I like your tank and coral...your new fish are great...I hope you are not upset, I'm just trying to help.

I am definitely not upset. Your advice is right on. I should have clarified. My son has a 120 gallon reef tank of his own and this piece came out of his tank. He brought it over in a pico tank and the parameters were checked to make sure salinity etc. were very close to mine before we put it in my tank. I saw his tank about a month ago and it was it great shape, so hopefully all will be well. I now have a quarantine tank set up where I'm seeding some dry rock, so my hope is to use that for all new purchases or presents. And really thanks much, all advice is appreciated. My son isn't around all the time and this forum and all of you here have been a big help to me.

That's what we are here for...to help each other. I saw your post and my first thought..too many cooks in the kitchen. Even husbands and wives must come to an agreement on what can and will go in the tank. So all is well, I like the darker clowns color. I have some perc clowns I bought because my mother liked them and we can only have one pair...These critters are so hardy, 6 years and they are still going.

Just an update. I added a frogspawn to my tank yesterday. It looks to be doing fine but I may have it in a too high flow area, gonna keep and eye on it but not sure where to move it if I have to. Here are some pictures - and if you have any suggestions as to where to move the frogspawn, it would be appreciated.

Not a great picture but it expanded out right away when I put it in the tank yesterday.

Here's the whole tank, I was thinking about putting it in the substrate since I dislike that white epoxy, just not sure, I'm not very good at this seascaping. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
