Should I have my lights on while cycling or does it not matter? Does the LR need light?

yes yes yes. lr needs the lights. Don't do what I did. I kept the lights off during cycling thinking it would keep away the algea bloom. All it did was slowly kill off my lr which kept poluting my tank which kept the cycle going...I had a 4-5month cycle and couldn't figure out why, when I finally figured out what was happening my lr was about all dead. Live and learn.

only the big hunk in the middle was LR (and the smaller brown rocks). The rest used to be live- we're hoping to seed it.
