How high is your nitrates I know alot of people who have nitrates around 20 it should drop in a couple days I think. You mainly have to worry about your nitrites and ammonia. Good luck

I would do a water change to get rid of the nitrate. When you top off the tank dont add salt. The salt dosent evaporate so it stays in the tank. When you WC you add salt because you are taking it out. A sump isnt a must but it would add more room for fish and help with your trates. I have one on my 29 and love itl.
