So what do I need to take care of one of those? Lights, flow, feeding, etc... :jumping:

it is unhealthy and an unhealthy looking pinkish-white. notice how it is shrivled and there is even white underneith it and some on the top. if i had a pic availible id show you one of mine its a deep red all the way around.

Now I have seen lots of brains that are curved like that. That means they are sick? I almost bought one that looks exactly like this one. Which store in Houston did you get this from? I live in Houston and am wondering if it is the one I wanted.
I really like the pinkish looking color. Are you saying they aren't suppose to be this color?

naw, they all are curved. but look at the flesh it looks very shrivled up. it will appear to have some wrinkles, but those ones are very large and it isnt very extended. and they do have pinkish ones, but look underneith the brain. it is all white indicating that the brain shouldnt have so much white. mine is red all the way around. it just loosk bleeched. To me anyways.

Sorry for the delay, I've been gone all weekend. Anyway, I purchased this one from Global Fish and Pets. They had some nice setups in there. I also went to Aquarium World.. They had a nice place too, but nothing on the coral side really jumped out at me. The Large tank was cool to see, though I wish they had live corals in there instead of all those fake ones.
Are there any other nice places to go in Houston, since I will probably be going back in a couple of months..my little girl loves the zoo there and the 'Stros will be starting soon.

I have a question about the brain. Do I have it placed correctly in the tank? Right now, I just have it settled into the sand. I wasn't sure if it should be up more or not. Should it be in an area to get more lighting?
Thanks for the info!!

it will tell you. your looks like it could do better. did you jsut get it? what lighting was it at at the LFS? what lighting do you ahve it under and how deep is your tank? you can adjust it, if that was the original problem it could help, but just make sure you do it slowly.

The brain like that I saw was at Aquarium World. I usually go to Village Tropical. They are nothing as big an fancy as Aquarium World, but they have a nice selection of corals and fish and a good price. I find AW pricey. Village Tropical is off Shepard and 59

-The pic was taken two days after putting the coral in the tank, so it was still new.
-I am not sure of the lighting at the LSF. I don't remember because I looked at so many the two days I was there.
-As for my lighting, it is a single 10,000K 150 MH bulb as well as a pair of Actinic 65w dual light bulbs. I don't know much about lighting equipment, I just read that off the bulbs.
-My tank is 24 inches deep with about 2 inches of sand in it. I do have the coral out in the open to where no shade is cast over it and it gets current.
Can anyone give me some advise on what is the proper feeding of the open brains. I was told to feed it a small piece of shrimp/kreel once a week. When I fed it tonight, it took it so fast that I barely had time to get my camera and catch a pic of it. I went ahead and gave it another piece, and it disappeared just as fast.
I appreciate all the help and input.

that should be enough lighting to make the brain come back. it would better if it were right under the halide too.
as far as feeding: with proper lighting, it isnt NECESSARY but it could help. as fara s how often, once a week shold be okay. just dont do it too often where it will spoil your water. and anything saltwater, raw, and meaty is good.
