GO SHARKS!!!!!

meh so i dont have a powerhead all the flow is from my ac20 which isnt a lot. Im getting a koralia nano for christmas that i plan to put in the tank on one end to blow across to the otherside to finally get some flow in there. In the meantime i moved my AOG to the sand bed and the ones that are grey green from the back to the front on the sand bed aswell. Hopefully they will start to look better. I moved the kenya tree rock to the top middle in less flow to see if that will help it stand up straight and not droop on all my paly/zoanthids on the sandbed. Im leaving for the weekend to go home so im hoping for the best when i get home.

haha thanks, I really hope my AOG give me a christmas present when I get back to the dorm on sunday and are open to say hello. Meh, i asked for the 18" 2x18watt Nova Extreme lights for christmas they are like 60$ shipped along with a koralia nano powerhead and some non fishtank stuff. Hopefully my parents come through because the zoa's dont look as happy as they did when they were under the TEK lights the guy was running who i bought them from.

so i came home today and everything was open huge and looking good for once. The AOG are happy to be back in the sand bed where most of the flow is and all polyps were open as big as ive seen. the 2 bigger heads have some skirt damage that hopefully will repair itself soon enough. Everything else is looking great though. Id post some pics but everything is pissed off after the water change and the lights just went out

I've kept AOG under PC and MH and they definitely look better and spread faster under the MH.. so try to get the PC close to the water lol...

yeah its the best i got until next summer at least. i want to upgrade to a 15 or 20 long and use a sunpod but i dont have room on my desk at school so im waiting until we get an apartment or rent a house next year.

yeah i hella wanted to do a 20 long with a sump but i need the tank to be mobile which is why i wanna get a 30" 20 long and then do a 6" all in one where i can make an overflow for surface skimming with chaeto and filterfloss and then have a maxijet as a return then at the other end of the tank put a koralia nano. Ive got a pretty good idea in my head it should be sick and portable for the most part.

dont worry i will, i think its going to be a summer project though. I need to wait for my birthday in june to get the sunpod like i want. And also birthday money to get the supplies and stuff. Eventually ill transfer everything from the 5.5 to the 20 and then turn the 5.5 into maybe a frag tank? Not sure yet

sounds very sick, i think on my 20 long im gonna do the nova sundial t5ho lights, 4x24w, 30" fixture, its perfect for the tank

yeah i thought about that but i think i wanna try MH on a tank and a 20 long would be perfect for it : ) plus i can always move them to the redseamax if i ever decide to fill it up

thank is looking great man! hey, that Bay Reefer meeting in Hayward is this weekend, you think you can still make it?

update
Tank is doing fine, my AOG (i think thats what it is) had folded in on itself for a few days and was not really opening and now it opened and seems to have regrown its skirt and looks like in a week or two it will be normal. Everything else looks happy and is open.
Monday night or tuesday morning ill be making the move home for christmas break. 6 week break then ill bring it back to my dorm.
My plan is as follows. drain a half a gallon or so of water into a Styrofoam box i have which will hopefully keep the water temperature as stable as possible. I will place my corals in that and hopefully my fish and shrimp too if i can catch them
Then fill another bucket with water from the tank and place my LR in that bucket. Im going to do it as fast as possible so i dont have the lr out of the water too long.
Then i just plan on leaving a small amount of water in the tank just to cover the glass. Ill place the tank and box in a storage bin in case of any splashing water i dont want in my car.
When i get home the plan is to place all the rock and water back in the tank and doing about a half gallon to 1 gallon water change. Im hoping that the water temp wont drop too much in the Styrofoam box so that way i can just keep the coral and fish in that box until i get the temperature in the tank back up to a 75-80degree range.

like when i first did it?
I bought a 5.5gallon All Glass Aquarium then bought a AC20 and a 18watt coralife fixture and a heater. I went to my LFS got a 10 pound bag i think it was of Live Sand and like 7 pounds of liverock half of which was covered in coraline algae from some dudes 125g that he broke down.
When I got home I put the sand in then the rock then mixed my own salt water using salt i bought from the store. At the time i used a penguin filter (it was too strong so i got the AC20 and took out the filter media and run carbon and chaeto with a desk lamp)
I let the tank sit for a day or two then got a dead shrimp and put it in for a day. The ammonia spiked and then the cycle finished eventually. I rescaped and bought a green clown goby and a CUC. Then got my sexy shrimp and some basic coral. When i saw those all lived i bought a 50$ zoa frag pack and yeah here i am today.
I think thats all there really was to it...just take your time really. I kinda feel like i rushed it a bit myself. Patience is key and take what ever you think is the right amount to feed and cut it in half. I overfed and because i wasnt sure what to feed and im still battling the cyano even now that i spot feed my goby (he basically eats out of my hand) and attempt to spot feed my sexy shrimp who apparently are too stupid to get food and half the time it floats away or the snails beat them to it...really how do you lose a race to food to a snail. And the sexys always poke at the expensive zoas...

well, the good news is, i didnt get it today, but, i will have a 20 long by teusday, goin to meet the lady at her shop to swap out this canister filter for a 20 long. and if the price is right, i might get a 15, but, im definitely gettin the 20 long, and i think im gonna keep the 2.5 for my betta lol what ill prolly do is set up the 20 long with a HOB ac30 or maybe a ac50 for now, just rip the guts out an drop in some carbon an some chaeto, and worry about a sump later LOL then after the first of the year, order my lights, and go from there, since im gettin the 20 long, im just gonna get the nova sundials, and booya, i got a 20 long nano tank LOL

get the sunpod! thats what im gunna do. Have you thought about just making the 20 long an All in one tank? Then you wont need to plumb a sump you can just make a false wall and have an overflow there
