you cant have too many corals in a tankt aht deep. softies, some msurhooms..... but not an anenome? how long ahve you had it?
and dont your seahorses get beaten whenever they try to eat by the tang or the clown? Im surprised they havent starved to death form competition with faster fish. This happens a lot.
And that tang is goign to get huge jsut so you know
looks nice though! I wish i had a tank that size.

The pics of your tank are awesome, and really any coral would do great in your tank, I think, given the right lighting, nutritional, and water parameter requirements. One thing though, and please don't take this wrong, but...
Please, PLEASE don't tell me you have those seahorses in with a naso!! Isn't there somewhere else you could put them???
That being said...I think that you have the same situation that I do with my tank, being mine is a 37 gallon, but is still a tall 37 gallon. I have to take into account how far down the light reaches. There are many, many corals that do well in lower lighting. Just do some research and start out slowly. You'll have a great reef in no time.
Again, please relocate the seahorses if you can...sorry, I have a very soft heart for those little creatures.

I've had the 2 anenomes for over 6 months. Do they need much more lighting??
The seahorses do great. I feed mysis cube once a day they eat like pigs. They also eat pods from LR.I've never had any problembs with fish picking on them. I even have a val. puffer. Sunday I took out 3 fish out of the tank & traded to my LFS. I'm kind of put out with them. New to this hobby I kind of relied on them for what I could put in my tank. They would sell me a freakin great white & tell me it would be fine. I'm fairly new to this board and it has really helped me. I've lowered my fish stock & now I'm going to focus getting coralife. I've not had my PC lighting long. It's looking more & more like I'm going to have to upgrade to MH. Is a chiller always needed with MH?
Thanks Fishie

Seahorses have been in tank for around 7 months. I appreciate your concern. None of my fish even look twice at them. When I get up some mornings sometimes I find them leaning on my naso. I really like the seahorses too. I've been considering a nano cube as a 2nd SW tank. Would a nano be big enough for SeaH??? My wife is probably gonna kill me when I get another tank I have 2 FW upatairs,,,,, but she'll get over it!

a chiller is not always needed. During the summer, spend LESS money and get a window air conditioner. Depending on where you live, youll probably need this anyways. youll save money and this way both your fish AND you will be cool

oh wait.... you were the ones with 3 hippos right? im glad you got rid of them then. A beautiful fish.
depending on the kind of anenome they do need more light. Halides would let them live for much much much longer. Your lighting would be sufficient if the anenome was all the way at the top or you had a much more shallow tank. preferably the later.

very very few types of seahorses will be okay in those. the only ones i know are pixies. but they are super delicate because they are so small. Seahorses are best kept in tall tanks like a 35 hex or soemthing.

HMMMM hi there, i might be going against what everyone else is saying, but i will show you proff with my pics. Here is my old 45gal tall reef before i moved it to a 125 gal. The tank is freakin awsome, and it is lighted by power compacts 2 65watt 10k dayights and 2 65watt actinics. That is about the same as what you are running. So YES you can grow out everything you want, and YES your anenome will be fine. Mine has split serveal times, and they will move around till they find a
Happy Spot
Now i fed my anenomes silver sides or brine shrimp cubes once a week to help them grow, once they get bigger they live of the light compltely and you dont have to feed them anymore, unless you want to. The tank is very healthy and very full, everything got so big i had to upgrade. Enjoy the before and after pics. Yes i upgraded to MH's with the bigger tank, ran across the extra grand to buy them. :joy:
P.S. I got a 125 gal Chiclid Tank, 55 gal freshwater community, 55gal freshwater parrot tank, 29 gal single oscar tank, 45 gal FOWLR with my non reef safe fish and my 125 gal reef. so there is nothing wrong with 2 many tanks. heheh

Come on guys he knows the seahorses would not normally be safe in there. He said he was led astray from his LFS. He also said the sea horses have been in for 7 months and eat well. It worked this time. This hobby is so hit and miss it's crazy. One book says this and another says that. All we can do is trust our insticts learn from others mistakes. his horses are probably 1 in 100 so don't everybody go out and try and buy them for there Tang tanks.
Nice tank man and congrats on lucking out on the Sea Horses.

Way to say it, if you read the disclamer when you sign up for this site, it does say gather info from at least 10 people and make your own conclusion. Just becuase one thing did not work for someone, does not mean it will not work for you. My tank shoul dhave crashed long ago, but it is doing great and my Salt water club loves it. I use well water straight from tap, no uv sterializer, i have learned from my mistakes and you just have to go for it. I am surprised the TANG police have not flamed me for having 3 different tangs in my tank. It is all about what works for you.

Good luck and keep it up great lookin tank

Kj thanks for the help with my anenomes!!!
I bought some feeding tongs yesterday & fed them all a small frz dried brine shrimp. That was freggin awesome.
!! Is fz dried brine ok to feed them & how often should I feed them
My LFS has been tellin me all along they just need the zooplex everday. Even after I told them they were shrinking. Do I need to be adding zooplex, phyto at all???
I've had problembs with my shrooms, but they are slowly coming back. I was doin what my LFS told me to do & adding iodine to tank everday. I later learned on this board I was overdosing and doing normal wat chnges is enough. I also learned about phospates. I bought a test kit, and my phospates are out the roof. I' sure from overstocking. I am currently treating for that. I put phosguard in a mesh bag2 days ago & in 2 more days I'm to check levels.
Q about the rock in my pics with the zoos. These are the 1st zoos I've had. I think zoos are the shiznit. What do they need to thrive????
Thanks Harndog

I'm sooo glad I found this forum
IT ROCKS!!!!!!

Best FOODS Frozen cyclopeeze, it is red and everyone loves it, i use it every 3 days. Anenomes will eat anything you put in there tenticles. I feed mine once a week. The mushrooms and zoos live off of light, but will sometimes close up when cyclopeze is in tank, mine love it. ***)

I have a 125gal i add zoo and pyto alternativly once a week. about 2-3 cap fuls in front of my powerhead. It is good for your filter feeders. I have a clam (1 year old) an oyster (2 years old) and a muscle( 2.5 years old) they are your typical flilter feeders. Also some corals with benifit off of it also. But CYCLOPEEZE is the best all around food for everyone in the tank. I have 3 plates and my xenias and my ployps love the stuff. The stuff is awsome. When i was at MACNA this past summer in D.C. they had a microscope so you can see what cyclopeeze is, and every red dot is a little creature. :joy: i have damsels, tangs, clowns, gobys, cleaner shrimps, pepermint shrimps, coral banded shrimp, and lots and lots of hermits and snails. My feeding schedule is
I am on a 3 day rotation,
1 st day Frozen - I mix up a cube of brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, formula one, sometimes i might throw in a cube of squid. mix up and feed to the tank in the evening
2 nd day Flake- I took a container and mixed 2 diffeent flakes together as to benifit all the fish. feed in evening
3 rd day Frozen- CYCLOPEEZE evening
Thursday's Feed anenome's frozen cubes or silver sides, also feed the brittle star.
Once a week- random, i will drop in some pytoplex or zooplex or marine snow. depends on what i want to use.
About every 2-3 days i add a 1/2 sheet of seaweed for who ever, or sometimes i rip out some culpera from the refugium and throw it in tank.
I have been doing this routine since i started 2.5 years ago. All my levels stay good in the tank as far as water quality.
Since I won a 5 years supply of IO Reef Salt from MACNA, and IO salt is a little low on calcium side, I started doing a 5 day drip of Kalkwasser, and man does that make your corals look awsome.
Other than that, i just look at the tank daily, do water changes bi-weekly 10%. That is about it. Good Luck

kjord97, what do you mean when you say a "5 day drip" of kalk?
I'm just setting up a new 65 gal system... and want to do SPS and make them look shweeeet.

I take the kalkwasser powder mix some in a gallon jug, wait a day, then pour it into my dripper. I then drip the solution real slow over the course of 5 days. sun night till fri i then leave it alon on weekends, cause i do a water change. Then i start again on sun night. that is about it
