My aggresive tank build diary.

I picked up a new tank last weekend. It is a "flat or lagoon" style tank it is 4' by 4' and 18" deep. Roughly 180 gallons. I'm pretty excited about it, I got the tank and stand, and 70ish gallon sump and overflow for a set of halides straight up that I wasn't even using. This is going to be a slow build due to the fact I'm paying for a wedding right now and she thinks that is a more important place to spend our money.

Anyways done alot of research on sharks and rays and think this tank would be perfect for them, there is alot of swimming room even though it's not a massive tank. I have a pretty good idea of what these animals need, the only thing I'm having problems with is what I can keep with them.....I here so many conflicting opinions on this. I'm leaning towards a bamboo shark I think but want to make sure he will be happy in this setup.
I will put pictures up this weekend. My first project is to re-finish the stand because it is pretty ugly. Well here I jump into another money-pit wish me luck.

Maybe you haven't gotten more feedback because the tank is not suitable for sharks. Take a moment and picture a 42" bamboo in a 48" x 48" tank. That tank is better suited for a small ray, imo.

Yeah that wouldn't be a good idea, scratch that, maybe my next tank. But I like the idea of the ray, my question is will large angels nip at them? I really want a large angel.
Second question that I've come across.......my friend has a large collection of fish stuff from a 1000+ gallon tank he broke down. He has a ETSS skimmer with two columns, it has an Iwake (sp?) pump. He said I could have it for 300 bucks. My question is can I "over-skim"? It will def. have a large bio-load being a predator tank.

Large angels would not go with either sharks or rays. And you cannot overskim... the more the better.

Hey thanks crimzy, I will pick the skimmer up for sure then, he has a ton of other goodies too I'm gonna buy but that's later.
Now my dilema is which route to go. I've had my reef for about a year and all I have ever wanted is some large angels. Well I got some time to figure that out atleast.

Well right now things are going real slow....can't stop dumping money into the reef.
But my problem right now is I can't figure out where to put this tank yet, I have 3 options so this weekend hopefully we are going to bring the stand in tank inside and figure which spot works the best.

LOL...Yeah cause once the water is in your stuck...When we moved the 225g into the room...that tank was SOOOOO heavy, it basically was not being moved...empty or not

If you want large angels then get them. That tank has the potential a lot of swimming room if you place the rocks in the middle leaving the sides free and clear. I would put the tank up against a wall and place the rock front to back in a line. Not left to right. This will maximize your viewing of the tank and allow plenty of room.

Yeah we took measurements of where it would fit but I still can't picture in my head what it would look like I will hopefully get a buddy this weekend to move it.

Yeah I have made my mind up on that I think, big angels are the priority in this tank.....that's a good idea about the rocks.
Although there is one spot we are thinking about putting it where it could be viewed on all sides, then I would make some rock piles in the middle only.
