My angel is a devil-just in time for halloween

Anybody have any experience trapping fish? I've got a flame angel that eats my soft corals everytime I get new ones for my 90 gallon reef tank. I recently bought 6 frags and 2 are gone-the fuzzy green sinularia and the white tip leather.I've never seen him, but the only other things I have are 1 yellow tang, 1 shrimp gobie, 1 clarkii clown, 2 green crabs,1 pistol shrimp and 1 coral banded shrimp. It's getting pretty expensive and discouraging. My tank was really starting to look good. Anybody ever have trouble with a flame angel and could anybody give me some advice? Thanks in advance.

According to Marine Fishes by Scott Michael,
Flame Anglefish:
Reef Aquarium Compatibilty: May nip at large-polyped stony corals, zoanthids, and tridacnid clam mantles. May also eat some soft coral polyps.
(Page 217).
While I don't know how to catch fish, there have been several threads with directions for fish and/or shrimp traps. Try the searh feature. Hope this helps.

Dwarf angels are known to munch softies, lps, etc. IMO You'll have to decide which you want to keep. Do you provide greens for your angel every day?

Thanks for the help.I'm going to try to make a trap and catch him and bring him to the lfs. I've had him for 5 years and have lost many corals and a flame scallop, although I could never catch him. Your info helped me to confirm that he's the one.

Are coral beauties supposed to be reef safe? I know saltwaterfish says flame angels are reef safe, but not mine. I wonder if some coral beauties will munch too. Right now I've just cut up a soda bottle and turned it into a trap. I'm going to put some small rocks in it so it will sink and some mysis shrimp for bait and see what happens.

y don't you wait till feeding? when I feed my fish flakes, most of them come right up to the top. Perfect time to scoop him up w/ a large net.

Another way to catch the little guy is to use a very small fly fishing hook i think a number 20 if it has a barb file it off, it isnt very hard to do, then bait it and drop it in with some light test weight monofiliment line and whamo, out it comes. no need for traps and bottles or food sitting in your tank. and it does not hurt the fish.

Thanks for the ideas. This angel is really shy even though I've had him for years. He stays right in the rocks and won't really come out while I'm there even with food in the water. Maybe I'll have to feed and put a net in the water at the same time for a while and he'll get used to it then I can make a move. I'm afraid if I get him really hungry and don't feed him for a while he'll go bonkers on the corals, then I might go bonkers and use a hand gernade.
Then again I'm a fisherman too, might have to try ultra light gear.
