My Blue tang keeps disappearing

In the past I've had two small blue tangs just disappear. I recently just added another and after two days he has disappeared too. What's the deal? My cleanup crew doesn't appear to be eating anything. The other fish in the tank are a foxface, coral beauty, firefish, clown. I also have a starfish. Do you think one of them is causing this? Please help

THe tank is 46 gal bowfront. The starfish is pretty big. Could this have killed the tang? I'd really like to know where these things are disappearing to.

What kind of star do you have? Stars do not grab healthy fish and just eat them. The fish have died and may have been eaten by your inverts. Hippos are not suitable for a 46 bow anyway, especially not with a foxface in there. I am sorry to have to tell you that, but they are not. Please select fish that can live well in your tank. The foxface will need a better home in time.

THe foxface is getting a little big, my lfs told me it was fine. This was before i was on the board here. How many inches should i let the foxface get before I take him back. My hippo was really really small. Is it still not suitable? I'd really like to determine where the tang goes though? If it's not the starfish what else could it be? The foxface doesn't appear to be aggressive.

It's not a drilled tank. I have a glass lid that does have a small opening for my hob stuff. I've checked all around, he didn't jump out.

Your LFS will tell you anything. A foxface grows large. A 46 is not the tank for a fish like that. It is really up to you on what you keep in your tank. It sounds like no one told you about the needs of these fish. Please research this stuff. It is not the size of the fish, it is the needs that they have, that you should consider when selecting fish. A hippo tang grows large and needs LOTS of room to swim. They are open water swimmers and will go stir crazy in a 36" tank. Not at first, but soon. It doesn't matter that the fish is tiny when you buy it. Does a puppy have LESS energy than a mature dog?
I must say that these fish can do well for awhile in a less than optimal sized tank. That is if the water parameters are right on, the tank is established, and the hobbyist knows how to tell if the fish is in discomfort.
