I have a mated pair, they have been together just a month, but it's definately love!!! The female has been in my tank since I started it 8 months ago. How long does it normally take for them to actually lay eggs? And is there any chance of keeping the spawn alive?
Dori
Every pair will be different. I have a few occasions where I have picked up pairs from other tanks/people that werent spawning , and had them spawn withing a few weeks. I have some that have been with me for nearly a year and they still havent spawned. I have paird fish myself, and had them spawn within 3-4 months. I have seen males spawn as early as 8 months of age. The female is usually 1.5 years minimum.
Currently I have 3 breeding pairs of onyx, a breeding pair of regular percs, a breeding pair of skunks, a breeding pair of tomato/cinnamons, a breeding pair of nigripes, and breeding banggai. and one pair of onyx that dont spawn.
I think that feeding a good quality food and providing a natural environment will encourage spawning.
Any chance of survivors?
Sure, I have raised a WHOLE lot of onyx, a lot of banggai, a few fire clowns, a few skunks, a few tomatoes. Nigripes are my newest challange.
