Sweet! I have 8 breeding pairs and never tire of seeing them out down eggs
I have a mated pair, they have been together just a month, but it's definately love!!! The female has been in my tank since I started it 8 months ago. How long does it normally take for them to actually lay eggs? And is there any chance of keeping the spawn alive?

well some clowns just pair up, but then there are mated pairs. I personally had 2 sets of mated pairs and it takes in the upwards of 2 years before anything happen for me. but i was also dealing with clarki's, it depends on enviroment health, age of fish.
As far as keeping them alive i have done it once, and its not easy. You need to look up Bang Guys methoad on that it seemed to work okay for me.

Every pair will be different. I have a few occasions where I have picked up pairs from other tanks/people that werent spawning , and had them spawn withing a few weeks. I have some that have been with me for nearly a year and they still havent spawned. I have paird fish myself, and had them spawn within 3-4 months. I have seen males spawn as early as 8 months of age. The female is usually 1.5 years minimum.
Currently I have 3 breeding pairs of onyx, a breeding pair of regular percs, a breeding pair of skunks, a breeding pair of tomato/cinnamons, a breeding pair of nigripes, and breeding banggai. and one pair of onyx that dont spawn.
I think that feeding a good quality food and providing a natural environment will encourage spawning.
Any chance of survivors?
Sure, I have raised a WHOLE lot of onyx, a lot of banggai, a few fire clowns, a few skunks, a few tomatoes. Nigripes are my newest challange.

what do you do with all of those baby clowns, don't most clowns spawn 2 times a month? do you sell them to lFS's?

I dont try to raise them all. I do a pretty good job with the onyx because I have some from a special bloodline (Bill Addisons) that are known/proven to color quicker/better. I have sold some to stores and also get 5-10 emails a day for my babies. I havent tried all that hard with the other species. I do it for fun, not for a business.
