My damsel will kill your damsel

I think I have the meanest yellow tail damsel in the world. He's very smart, and super angry at everything in the tank. Maybe a payperview event of damsels is in order here.

Yes, damsels can get mean with time, and if you want to get anything new in your tank I would get rid of them. I 65 can hold a few great specimens, as long as you get rid of the damsels. IMO, they are only cycle fish, and meant for nothing else, unless they are the only inhabitants in the tank.

LOL...clowns are damsels too & "everybody" loves those...maroons can be down right ferocious...damsels are very interesting & colorful fish & for the most part encapture everying most people want in a fish...color, personality, hardiness...just the depth of the attitude needs some working on...get a large lawnmower blenny; it WILL show 'em who's boss...might even leave it's "mark" on the side...yellow tails are 1 of the easier damsels you can get to breed in your tank though

When I put my hand in the tank to feed my bubbletip anemone my maroon clown goes nuts and starts dive bombing my hand I think it is funny. All in all he is pretty peaceful to the other tankmates. <img src="graemlins//uhuh.gif" border="0" alt="[U-Huh]" />

Demo,
Whatsa matta for u uh???
Everything is NOT disposable....There are varied opinions on this board about damsels as "cycle" fish, but dang boy, if it lives, and breaths, just like you do, is it disposable??
And yes, they are ornery little critters, and the ONLY reason I didnt get one when I was a newbie, is because my daughter-in-law has one, and he is a handful,...

I plan on taking my 3 damsels back when my tank does fully cycle. It's only been up for about 4 weeks now. I had another yellow tail in there and also a 4 stripe, but the *MEAN* yellow tail killed them both. The two domino's seem fast enough to get the heck away when they need to. They seem pretty peaceful except they sometimes chase each other. My yellow tang is the most easy going of the 4 fish now. The LFS is expecting the 3 remaining damsels back soon.

I love my two yellowtail damsels! I got them for the sole purpose of cycling the tank, before I discovered this board. Now I feel bad about putting them through that, should've used shrimp. If they pick on any new fish, they get their own tank...it will be ready, cycling it with a shrimp right now.My Karma can beat your Karma.

Damsels are NOT "disposable-cycle tank only fish". If not mistaken, they are small Reef fish. They can be tempermental, but that doesn't mean that they're garbage fish to be thrown out like some people think. I have 4 now cycling a tank, and NO they are not stressed or harmed from cycle due to proper seeding of tank setup (0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, tank stable ever since setup). And I do like them, they are very cute fish, especially in small saltwater tanks. Only used to for Quality control of tank setup. There new home will be another new setup for a friend's new tank.

It was tough giving up my damsels. I did put them in a separate 20 gal for awhile but the mean one just picked on the other. They live in a tank at a pre-school now. I miss 'em and I would never suggest (as my LFS did when I was new) that they be "used" for a cycle.

If you would only notice what I say, and not be so quick to assume I don't realize they are living creatures. What I was saying was that they should be kept individually, or not at all. I am saying that they are aggressive and don't belong with other fish. I am saying they can be used to cycle the tank, and then be traded in, or remain, as long as they are the sole species. I am saying that they don't mix well with other species. I am no cold-blooded killer! Jeez, one person says one thing, and most everybody gets into a mob-like mentality. I was saying that they should be kept with their species, or not at all. I have a damsel-only tank, but I don't think I'll stick a tang in there anytime soon, unless I want to be forced to flush him! Calm down and let a person explain, or at least truly read what a person writes.
