Q5's have a higher lumen rating vs the older ones.
107lumen's @350ma.(I think something like 130ish @1000ma....cant remember off the top of my head)
I think the older XRE-s were at 77 lumens....again, I cant remember for sure. Jsut that the Q5's are rated higher lumens.

Supposedly Q5's are a 6500k rating, but it looks more like a 12k color.
Definitely more saturated with white where as my XRE's are more of a yellow saturation.

Im a little miffed since I ordered the Q5's to complete my array not knowing they were such Major difference in color tone(RAPIDLED no longer carries the XRE in white), I really hope the color variance between the left and right side of my tank doesn't become a major detractant.

There are also the XPG's that put out 8500k with 139lumens @350 ma, capable of going up to 1500ma.
Nate: you have to get them closer to 1500ma to reach the 8500k rating.

And the MCE which will do 430lumens @350ma.
The MCE only goes up to 750ma, and cost $25 a peice. So they are for a deeper tank, at a greater cost.

So how deep of a tank can I use the Q5's for? I have a 72.5" L X 27" H X 20.5W tank and would like to make a LED setup. Should I use a canpoy with some wholes cut out for the heatsinks to vent from the top?

I thought I had asked either Tannersmith or King this question before, but can't remember where I had asked it, but anyways!!!! What is the distance/height, from the heatsink to the end of the optics? Meaning what is the height of the led with the optics installed?

It think it veries from the degree of optics you're looking for. I'll pm you a link that has measurements for the different optics that they make for the cree's.
