Well I have decided to build a new skimmer.I like the Orca reeflo 250 but after reading some of the complants on it I decided to build my own.
Here is the start. Here Is the dart needle wheel pump sitting in between the 12" and 8" tubing.

Here is a pic of the tubing being cut down to size

all the tubing cut to size

Here is all the tubing doing a test fit

Got the bubble plate drilled our 256 holes , my arm is kinda tired after do those

no all the pieces are routed out doing a test fit on the box

Now it time to glue it all together.
Here is the cone being glued on.

people where saying they wished the bubble plate was removable so I decided to make mine removable. You can see the 4 little bolts holding mine on so I can take it off and clean the inside

well now that everything is glued up time to do a water test

That is a truely, fine piece of work. I am sure that you will be very happy with the results. The design seems to allow for MASS air with very little turbulence or large bubbles. VERY nicely done

Post some skimmate pics later, after it gets broken in well.

Very very very nice!
everyone else seems to have covered all the other compliments possible.

Great job on documenting the build. that looks like a really nice skimmer.
have you estimated what the capacity is (how large of a tank it can handle)?

What an awesome build! Do you have any details on the box? I want to build a similar skimmer and need more information about the plumbing, flow and other features of the base. Any other insights/suggestions now that it has been running for over a year?
Thanks!
