For my dads 74th bday last year we got him a mini schnauzer puppy, Dallas. Omg, they were meant to be! Never seen a more spoiled dog ever! My dad was a grumpy old man before this dog, now he's happy, energetic, cracks jokes. Animals are amazing , can soothe the soul, protect, are beyond happy to see you whenever you come home and only ask for love in return. We figured we added years to my dads life, I'm lucky and blessed to still have him!
Ok sorry, feeling a little sentimental tonight....
Awwwww that's so sweet!

Bubblegirl, that's just awesome! Puppies have that affect on the elderly, that's why they allow dog visits in the nursing homes. I bet you did add years to his life.
I finally broke down and let my dogs have some pups...this photo of my mother, is a keeper.

Both your mother and the puppy are so cute!
My mother had been so sad after my dad died. I got her Tammy and all she talked about was having puppies. I DID NOT WANT PUPPIES...they are messy and they smell and they are hard work and they have to have good homes or they land up in shelters. When you sell puppies there is the possibilty something could be wrong and they want the breeder to pay out thousands to fix the dog they bought, and the money they paid for the puppy too...too much headache...we watch a lot of Judge Judy and The Peoples Court.
Tammy went into her second heat just shy of the two year old timeline to have her hips certified. The responsible thing to do if you breed german shepherds. Her parents had been certified and so was his, so the chance of bad hips were minimal, but it could always happen that a dog has hip displasia. If it is in the bloodlines and if you breed a dog with problems, the pups would be predisposed to have it.
I made sure (I THOUGHT) that Atticus and her did not hooked up, then one day I noticed Tam getting fat, and I lectured my mother on overfeeding the dog. I was petting Tam and she rolled over for a belly rub...I said to my mom.".Mother, it looks like she has milk". My mom says "no way", I said "it sure does" and called the vet. We had her checked the next day, the vet felt of her belly and agreed she had pups...she went and took some images and came back with a big grin...she set her laptop on the table and turned it for us to see and started counting1-2-3-4...11 puppies
and that is the name of the the thread, if you want the whole story.
That picture was her holding one of the pups, and she was soooo happy. It was a ton of work to care for the pups and find good homes. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world...LOL, nor repete it ever again, we had Tammy spayed, Mother agreed 100%. My house is too small, and we are too old and tired to raise a bunch of german shepherds in our kitchen.
However a puppy for the Elderly does lift their spirits, and I do believe puppy joy will cause them to live longer. In the very least it will make those last years good ones. Bubblegirl did a good thing for her dad that's for sure.
