Can someone tell me what is happening if this is even normal or not?
I have had my Emerald crab now for about 2 months. When I got him he was VERY green. However, I rarely see him anymore becuase he only comes out at night. I know he's there and fine because about once a week I get up in the middle of the night and see him, only to have him run under rocks when I turn the lights back on.
I have a:
29 gal tank
Live Rock
1 False Perc Clown
1 anemone
several snails and hermit crabs.
So, my crab only eats Algae, and lots of it. I can tell in the morning that he's eaten the previous night because of the lower algae levels on the sand. He really gets into it I guess.
So anyways, when I see him at night now, with the lights on, he's not really green anymore. He's more "grey" colored.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
Is he molting?
Is it due to his algae only diet (he may get some leftover shrimp from the anemone and some left over Prime Reef frozen blocks)
Is it due to the lack of light exposure becuase he's only out at night?
Anyone? Is this normal?
