Anyone heard of and/or familiar with the ZM Weapons manufacturer? I was just watching American Shooter and they had a whole segment on them...some guy wanted to start comp shooting, couldn't afford buying the weapons, so he started building his own. Now, they're a highly desirable AR setup and they're being used by CIA and some military spec ops, over seas.
The website is www.zmweapons.com but it's very rudimentary and doesn't really supply a lot of info.
Very sexy, clean looking rifle!!...

Heard of them, but never handled one. If you like ARs and clones Ares Defense Systems builds some pretty cool belt fed units. They used to have video on their site, but it looks like it's gone. 1 handed full auto that is easy to control with ZERO muzzle rise. Super cool if you're into ARs and M-16s.
Here's a link.

Im a bench rest target shooter myself. Mostly single shot 22cal, 6mm or .308. Sako or Shilen DGA. Favorite round for varmints is probably 22-250 or 17 Rem.

some don't.
Have seriously considered an MP5K build. Aftermarket parts are readily availabe at decent prices now.

The new H&K is nice, I think I saw something about it on "Future Weapons" on the Discovery Channel. I wish I could purchase that for my first fire arm, but I am going to go with this:
Mossberg 500 JIC: I think it would be a good weapon for home defense, and the size would be good for clearing a house/apartment. Any thoughts?
I also would like to get a Kimber 1911, I just wish I could afford this one: Kimber Raptor 2

Couldn't have said it better myself!
When it comes down to it, I don't trust my life to anything but an H&K. I own two HK .40 and would not trade them for anything in the world. In my honest opinion, there's no better firearm. I carried a .40 for six years and trusted my life to that company and hold no other weapon manufacturer in higher standards than them.

You did see it on Future Weapons...I saw the same episode and that's when I fell in love with that rifle. Not only did they submerge in water and still shot it, under water, but they buried it in sand (filled the barrel with sand too)...left it for a few hours...and still came back and shot dead on, from 200 meter away, without changing a thing. And, they didn't even empty the sand from the barrel, before firing it.

Shotguns are nice for home defense. I own a Mossberg 500 Special Purpose with a Sure Fire flashlight on it, for home defense and am highly satisfied. I prefer something with a butt stock on it, other than a "sawed off" because I'm used to room clearing with a rifle. I already own two M4 type rifles and wouldn't use them for purely home defense. A .223 round has too much velocity and I would worry too much about it going through walls. Give me a shotgun or pistol any day.
I own two Kimber Custom .45's (one with a Sure Fire light and one without). I've pulled one out, on two occasions, in Chicago, when I thought someone was in my house. To add to that...never, ever, ever have a "home defense" weapon, without having some type of flashlight attached to it...whether it's always on or a pressure switch model. In one of my instances, it was my roommate coming home at 4.30am, drunk, making too much noise, when I thought he was home before me. I wouldn't have known him from Adam, if it weren't for the flashlight on the muzzle.

Wow. I never thought about that. That is great advise. My roomate and I are both pretty heavily armed and I would hate to end up in a gun battle with him due to a lack of light. I'll have to pick one up.

I've heard too many bad stories...wife, who can't sleep and gets up in the middle of the night for a glass of water. Husband thinks someone is in the house and ends up shooting his wife, because he couldn't see who it was, in the dark and just started shooting.
Teenage kid sneaks in at 2am and mom/dad thinks someone is in the house. Ends up shooting their kid, for breaking curfew.
I was trained to always I.D. target first, before shooting...even if you're in a hostile area. The last thing I want is a dead relative because I shot first and asked questions later.
I prefer pressure switch lights. That way, you can illuminate a specific area, at a specific time, instead of blindly wandering around your house with a lit flashlight, letting an intruder know exactly where you are.

I believe the saying is "Tracers work both ways"

If your gun dosn't have a tac rail on the frame, Surefire sells mounts for some models that attach to the frame with out having to modify the frame of the gun.
I am also a big fan of Surefire as a tac light. Their products are powerful and compact... Heck, even the light itself is a weapon. I've been blinded by my buddy in a well light room
before, I believe he asked me if I wanted "to see the blue dot"... I don't even want to know what its like to be on the recieving end in a dark room somewhere.
I carry my Surefire G2 most of the time, its just handy to have a small and powerful flashlight. Just don't drop it while the bulb is hot... because you'll need a need bulb.

Friend of mine went to get his home insurance. Has a rifle similiar to that one, and they denied him coverage... They said they can't cover a home with a semi automatic... He gave them a million loop holes, but they called back and said no way.
Guess if you have one, you better hide it from the insurance companies...

Also a valid point, but with a pressure switch tac light, you can selectively illuminate an area. You find someone, in the house and you can immediately illuminate them instead of having to walk around the house with a flashlight beam wandering around.
No flashlight, you're either gonna shoot someone in the dark or stumble around and be paying more attention to trying to turn light switches on.

I wasn't saying that you don't need a flash light, I was just agreeing that selectively illuminating is far superior to the light being on the entire time.

Sheriff Hayworth used to teach us to hold a flashlight with a pressure switch in our off-hand palm down across the front of the body with sidearm wrist rested on the arm above the elbow. Turning slightly sideways, this placed the flashlight away from our body and presented a false target. Weapon mounted lights, although on for just a millisecond, present a target that lines up with your head.
Hope you never need to implement this procedure, but gives you something to ponder.

Its great to see some active gun owners around...So many ppl are going crazy about gun laws now...I have around 25-30 of my own..(Still cant afford my MP5) I am going to being moving to Alaska in the next few months which is great...I can use those big rifles now without feeling like it would be "overkill"

I have 32...not nearly active in buying as I used to be, due to a HUGE difference in wage earnings.
There aren't too many people, in my area, that have any interest in firearms, except for the hunters...only using them during season.
There's no place I can go, take my M4s and just shoot for a few hours. :(

What I've done as far as the roommates coming in late at night is I tell them NOT to be quiet and make sure that they turn on lights as they go. If someone is "breaking in"then they are likely to be quiet and not turning on lights.
As far the the guns themselves beautiful Kimber! I have a Kimber Stainless and it is by far my favorite pistol. Most of what I collect is WW1 and WW2 era rifles and pistols, I think you can't beat the looks of some of the old classics.
