My first disaster!

Well today I arrived home to find my first disaster. I blew a circuit breaker because of a water spill, a hose fell out of my 75gal tank. Id say I lost 5-10 gallons of water. My 2 damsels apear fine. My question is what about the bacteria? I had just completed my cycle. At max the pumps and stuff were off 6 hours ( I left at noon, returend at 6). Also whats the best way to get the water up? Its soaked through my carpet and under the stand. Im worried about what it will do to the stand, the bottom is oak vanier which sets directly on the carpet.

Doesn't sound like a disaster...
Not sure about the oak, but 5-10 gallons out of a 75g tank shouldn't have much of an impact if any at all. That's like a small water change.
I think your tank wil be just fine. As far as the water under the stand, aim a fan at it for a few days...it should dry it out.

To try and get more of the water out from under the stand try putting the edge of a thin cotton towel (like a tee-shirt) under the stand. By having it on carpet you should be able to force the edge of the material under the stand. Do this on all affected sides. Leave the rest of it hang out laying flat and any water will "wick" out through the material. By no means a quick fix but in a few hours you should be able to get most of it.
