I bought a green chromis and so far 24+ hours and he hasn't eaten. His color is good when light is on but he is breathing rapidly and he is in QT tank with 1 piece LR and 1 PVC elbow he swims around a little. How long can he go hungry before I worry . I am trying to feed him flake as LFS said Tetra min was OK that I used for FW tropicals. LFS is also only open on weekends so I can't call to re - ask what he was eating. Any suggestions. Oh he also was really dark when I turned on lights but color improved with in a few minutes. Any suggestions or advice is happily accepted.
Hoping he survives QT so he can move to DT.

take a small cup put frozen or dried food in it, take a clover of garlic and crush it then place it in the cup add watter from ur tank and let it sit for a couple min then poor a little in the tank or use an eye dropper to slowly add the smell of the food in the water. the fish should smell it and go after the food.

Can you list the water parameters in the QT (pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrates)?
I would try feeding him some kind of frozen food. Something that you are using for freshwater fish is probably not adequate for saltwater fish.
Give him a few days though. He can go as long as a week before I would begin worrying.

PH - 8.4 - 8.6
Ammonia .25 (I think test kit is flawed always get that reading in all 3 tanks,
also got that reading from lfs water.)
Nitrite is very light purple color doesn't match any on card ?
Nitrate 10
Phosphate .5
Salinity 1.022 with refractometer
Temp 79
this is the parameter for QT tank which is 29 gallon standard flourescent lighting fluval 304 1 PH and 1 small piece or LR and a PVC elbow in tank.

He may just be a bit stressed. Give him some more time and offer better foods (mysis shrimp, krill, formula 1 or 2)

a chromis will not do well by itself, they really do need other fish. They are a schooling fish.
