My first frag

I got a maroon mushroom today and I decided to frag it. I cut it into 4 pieces across the mouth, put it into a little tupper ware jar with some sand in the bottom and a piece of a rubber glove across the top with holes in it, then placed it in my tank. Hope I did this right :notsure: , hope I will get 4 shrooms.

every thing sounds good, but i would change the rubber glove for bridle netting. more flow

How long should I leave the mushrooms in the little container with sand before I glue the frags to a piece of rock.

glueing mushrooms doesnt always work, due to the slime the super glue gel doesnt hold well..within 1-2 weeks the frag should attatch itself to the rock on its own and start healing. netting works well..

Instead of sand you should put liverock rubble in there. The shrooms will attach to the rubble and then you can glue them anywhere you want in the tank. They should attach in a week or so.

I always place them on a piece of live rock rubble and then wrap the whole rock up with a mesh netting, so that it stays in place and still gets water flow. I keep it in my tank like that for about a week and it attaches nicely.

So you cut the mushroom into four equal parts, with a quarter of the mouth on each piece? The reason I'm asking is i'm getting on a fragging kick and can get a good deal on some mushrooms and would not mind multiplying my find!

Yeah I cut them into 4 equal parts and placed them in a tall tupperware container with some rubble on the bottom of it. I did not bother with the netting or anything because it was deep enough for them to not float out. They attatched to rocks in about 5 days and now I glued them to live rock and they seem to be getting bigger every day. I am going to be going mushroom fraggin' crazy now I see how easy it is! :hilarious

Great, fragging teaches you alot about patience and condition change effects on growth. Also since your attention is elevated for the particular species your working with, as time goes on and you frag different specimens you gain loads of firsthand experience with regards to what to look for and what you should expect during acclimations and different moods of each species.
AND Saves a ton of money while giving a feeling of accomplishment.
Congrats
