My First Horses!

The LFS called today to say my horses had arrived. I ran right down to "visit" them and was going to leave them there till Friday (just in case they didn't survive the stress of the trip) but when I remembered tomorrow is a holiday I couldn't stand the thought of leaving them at the LFS, not knowing if they would get fed, if they'd be OK unsupervised all day, etc. so they are home.

Just a few shots after I put them in the tank, about an hour ago.

Thanks all - I happen to think they are gorgeous, too, but perhaps I'm just prejudiced. :)
These are Erectus seahorses..... sorry I don't know the scientific name for them.
And yes, MBoswell.... I believe you are doomed. This is how it all starts. I had no intention of ever having a horse tank - until one grabbed me, and the rest was history.

i know, now i got thoughts runnin through my head for a separate build to be done at the same time as the build for our big tanks, just for horses and a few fish to go in there with them LOL

Hippocampus erectus also called lined seahorse. My favorite. Congrats.
Does the lighter one have a unicorn horn. Look like it in the picture. Some Erectus have Cirri
Congrats, are the Captive bred?? and have the eaten yet.
Oh and the darker one is a male. Start reading up on erectus fry. They are the easiest to raise.
Clevelandseahores raises them and so does cranberry.

I was WONDERING what that was on her forehead and have been trying to get a decent photo of it so I could ask but it's so hard to see in pictures. But yes, it looks like a "hair" coming out of the center of her forehead. I'll have to go read about cirri. I don't even know if that's a good thing or a problem!
Yes, captive bred and eating like horses.

I am SO in love, it's scary.

its just bone protrusions that aid in camo in the wild, though I have seen some beautiful captive bred horses with it. I love a horse with Cirri. Not all species have it-mostly Erectus, zots, and barbs I think.

Actually I don't think this is cirri - it actually waves in the flow, like a hair.

Are you SURE it's not just a lock of hair that she's using to look sexy for the male? You know, like when a human female lets her hair down to blow in the breeze?

Very nice looking horses! I especially like the coloration of the female!! I have dozens at different ages, but they are all golden yellow and yellowish brown, except 5 from the last brood that are black with silver banding.
Yours are very nice!! And I love the cirri look!

It looks like cirri to me also, and you have a very young male , and if she's liking him...be prepared....looks like you have maybe a month [judging from his newly formed pouch]till they dance for you...then the countdown begins..but only if she likes him...I have a "older" female , got from 2 months old and hates ALL my males....3 years later and has never done the deed...go figure????..lol...It's not scary to raise them....they don't hitch from birth though[if there northern erectus, like mine]pm me if he gets preggers and I;'ll show you how I made my baby tank...like a kressel

there northern erectus .and with cirri is a bonus..and the most hardy of bigger horses....I love mine....wait till yours dance at feeding time...don't know how they know it's dinner time, but they do

Wow, thanks for all the compliments. It sounds like my LFS got me a real couple of beauties here - he ordered them directly from ORA so I will definitely use the same source for my next pair.
They might "do the dance" and have babies so soon???? For some reason I thought they had to be much older - any guesses how old these guys are?
