This is my first time setting up a nano and i have some basic but important question and would appreciate any hep i can get.
I have a 20 gallon long with about 25 lbs LR and 20 lbs LS. I run a 40 gallon Whisper HOB filter. I also have a Fussion nano protein skimmer.
My Questions
- Will the uncured LR start my cycle.
- Should i Cure it under lights or dark
- Should i use a powerhead while curing
- Is it normal for the water to stink while curing.
- what is the normal time it would take to cure
- how long should i wait before i do a water change
- Should i take out the filter material and pack it full of LR rubble
- Should i also run a pantyhose with act. carbon
- Should i run it 24/7 or just acoupla days a month.
i thakn you in advance even if you can only ansewer a couple.

-yes uncured rock will start your cycle
-cure under dark to prevent unwanted algea growth
-yes have a good flow going when you are curing it
-yes the water gets quite smelly
-it should take no longer than a month
-do a water change about every 3-4 days until you are cycled
-i would keep in the filter pads because they trap big debris and beneficial bacteria can grow on them
-you can run activated carbon but isn't required
-well run your filter and skimmer 24/7; but the carbon isn't needed all the time, just when it clouds up a bit IMO
Rob
good luck

thank you very much for the info. thats prty much what i thought but i want everything to be as close to perfect as possible. any suggestions on what fish would go well in tank. it will primarily be a mushroom/ric tank with 130 watt pc lighting. but i just want to make it a little more colorful. i was thinking like an orange angler. what else would go with that if anything.

If you do water changes during the cycle, it will take longer.
Do not do a water change until the cycle is completed.
Once the cycle is completed, then do a 50% water change.
