Do you thaw out your frozen food???
In a post I was discussing tahwing out frozen food. I was curious to see if it really is important to tahw food, or if it is just a waste of time. I was just wondering what you saltwater fish people do.
THANKS!!!!

we have a "specail" cup too. Who would want to drink out of something that has had that nasty smelling Kents Garlic in it?
And our clown is a little nutty, he sees the net coming and tries to jump in it, he's figured out that the foods in there.

if you thaw the food out, the reason for thawing it out is so the food will not be held together. There is something holding the food togethe rthat is bad for the tank. If you are pouring the water into the tank, then there really isn't a point in thawing it out. So if you pour the melted food into the net the water strains out. Therefore when you put the food in the tank that is all that is going in the tank. Maybe someone else can explain it better then me.
haha, I have a special cup too. I use that kent garlic, and it made this cup permenantly smell bad. So I just use that cup.

I thought that the frozen food just had a little water added to make it freeze in the cube shape. I did not know it was a chemical.
Are you sure?
:notsure:
I guess I can check the package when I get home and read the ingredients.

I add Zoe and Selcon to the frozen food in a dish and let it sit overnight in the refrigerator. The next day I add tank water to the dish and let the food thaw out completly then I take a plastic dropper and add the food to the tank.

I don't know if a "chemical" is in it. i just know that you should thaw it. It could be tap water. I dunno. What holds frozen food together???

I strain it in a cup, add whatever I want, and then pour all the water in the tank. That way filter feeders get a chance to eat too.

I thaw mine, but I don't strain it. I figure the "juices" contain small particles for the filter feeders. I also mix a little garlic xtreme and zoe in and i also add some cyclopeze in with it and feed.

I put two or three cubes into a coffee mug of RO/DI water with Cyclop-eeze, Garlic Xtreme, and Zoe. This solution gets nuked in the microwave for 15 seconds, then gets stirred to break up the gel binder. Whatever doesn't get fed then goes into the fridge where it's ready for the next feeding. I usually get three days out of each batch. I've been feeding my fish this way for several years without a problem.

I thaw mine in RO/DI water, then strain it and feed it, Try this, thaw just the cube out without water, then strain it and test what is left for nitrates, why put that in your water? I was told that RO/DI water will actually pull some of that bad stuff out of the food.

Yeah...Steve Weast said that in a previous post. He said RO water will pull phosphate out of the food. I have been doing trying to come up with the actual post, but no luck yet.
