Well tomorrow I pick up my tank and stuff and start my first saltwater tank and I have a couple of question:
1. After filling my tank and getting everything level ie.. temp and salt ect how long do I have to wait to put in live sand??
2. Will I still need to do the 2 shrimp thing to start the cycle??
3. I want to start off with ls but I can not really afford lr right now is it ok to have one with out the other?
4. how long after the ls and shrimp does it normally take before I can put in a couple of fish in a 75 gal tank??
5 wish me luck

1 a couple of days to get the salt well dissolved and temp up
2 not neccesarily, you could get away wihtout it
3 yes, but if you can do both, it is better. If you wait for the LR, and add it POST-cycle, make sure it is well cured b4 addding to the tank
4 unfortunately that is anybodys guess. each tank is different. EVEN given the same amt of LR, LS, shrimp and all.
5 GOOD LUCK

1. - You can add the LS after the water has stabilized - let it age at least overnight so you know the salinity/SG is accuate then add your LS. It will help to start the cycle as it has the bacteria in it that you want to grow.
2. - yes you should do the shrimp thing IMHO, it will speed things up.
3. - It perfectly ok to have LS w/o LR.
4. - usually about 4 - 6 weeks to cycle your tank! ( gives you time to think about what fish / inverts you want......you will prob change your mind 100x during the waiting period!) After the tank is cycled just do a 25 - 30% water change and wait another couple days then add your fish.
5. - Good luck! & welcome to the board!

I just started my tank almost a week ago, and i put the live sand in first. Then the water. Then I went on vacation and when i got back I put two shrimp in my tank. Now it is starting to cycle. When the tank is done cycling, then I will do a water change, and add fish.
