After about an hour of measureing and cutting, my homemade hood was done....

you need to slow it down some. i know, i know, you want a tank right now! we all do, but it doesnt work that way. you should have cycled your tank (2-3 weeks) before adding ANYTHING. by adding stuff before your cycle is over is just like throwing money out the window. slow down, take your time, and dont add stuff too quickly as you might shock your whole system... just my .02
