i have had a bunch of fresh water fish tanks before, and have always wanted a salt water. well im going to be buying a marineland 29 gallon starter. im getting 30 lbs of sand, some live rock, i was wondering what else i i will need. i wanna end up with a coral beauty, harlequin sweetlips, and a few others. i what should i be looking at to start with. or are there other fish i should be looking at because of the size of the tank.

Welcome to the boards
I have the same aquarium.Instant Ocean right? It is a good aquarium. The coral beauty sounds pretty cool.I would loose the sweetlips, just beacuase they get a little big.I would add a pair of ocellaris clownfish, and a goby of some sort. How much live rock do you want to add.I have about 45 to 50lbs in my aquarium.Liverock is a great source of filtration. And also welcome to the most addicting hobby ever

If you get clowns do not get an anemone yet. It will have a hard time making it in a new tank.

Congrats on entering the life! I agree with LKGR on their suggestion about the anemone. I typically wait a couple of months after adding my fish to start introducing anemones.
Great luck to you and again, welcome!!

Welcome to the hobby! You have picked a great place to learn. I have had about two years of saltwater experience and I am still asking questions and learning something new almost everytime I log into this board.
Here is some good advice.. Read the below threads and read them slowly. There is so much information in there. After that, take some time to read the different threads in the new hobbyists forum. You can learn alot and it will save you alot.
Dont go cheap. In this hobby, you will end up getting the right equipment eventually, in the long haul you will save money, time and a lot of frustration by doing it right the first time.
Understand your budget and plan accordingly.
Do yourself a favor and read the below threads....

and thank you both for the links, my gf and i are both reading them.
Im looking at getting a marineland marine series tanks, with the corner flow system. this way we can run the 2 tanks, thinking a 200 gallon. would that be easer to start with?
