my guess is that your nitrates are high bc of your canister filter. get that sump/fuge in there asap. why do you have ammonia?
as far as lighting goes, buy a used MH fixture, something that isnt so old that it will blow up, but im sure you understand what i am saying. check other forums, check craigslist.. idk how long a 37 gal is but i saw a 5 month old 30inch 250mh watt sunpod (which is prob way more than you need) for 175. cant go wrong!

That's a cool looking setup. I use a Fluval 404 canister and a Skilter 350 gph HOB and have 0 amm, 0 nitrite and 0-trace of nitrate. My xenias, mushrooms and Kenya are growing and spreading like fire, which why I finally posted some pics. As a back up for nitrate removal, I have cheato in the DT on one end toward the back. I have to thin it every now and again, but everything in the tank seems quite happy. Also, I have a huge rock anemone you can see on the thread a put up today. I like a more natural looking reef, so it works well with the rest of the reef.

Hey guys I've upgraded my light and I'm having trouble with a bright green algae now. I run the t-5's for 9 hours and the antics come on a hour early in the am and stay on a hour after the t-5s go out??

it's not that hard to learn what to do on your own and I have had more trubble talking to too many people on the net and there are too many OPINANS there are a lot of ways to do things the key is to not try everything at once and you may want to put your stars up high mine got really good coler when I moved them
