yea i agree a horse is a specimen tank creature.
dont feel bad we have all bought things and added it to our tanks we shouldnt have.just like the other poster said all the lfs dont tell you the right way to go.vary rarely do we find one that is worthy of credits.i have been at this a long time and the more you learn the easier it gets but you will always have problems.its a life long hobby with its ups and downs.patients is key but who has that these days.

dont be a naive ... i meant i lost 600$ in a week ... i didint loose everything ... my whole live stock including the live rock was worth around 2500$ ... and corals and fishesh here are cheaper than US cuz corals reefs are in the south of the country .

In the event you do restock and start over...sea horses do not go with anemones and all that expensive coral was doomed because the General sea star eats coral. That's what I noticed right off and I'm sure you mixed other non-compatables besides.
So you need a book on compatability of the critters you are adding to the tank. Besides going slow.

Carbon, or vodka, dosing is a very very tricky road to go down and one I would seriously suggest that you not travel in the future given your limitations on access to the material. Once you start carbon dosing, you cannot ever stop the process or you WILL lose your tank. At best you can reduce your input to a minimum but you will always require vodka as a supplement as your bio-load will be dependent upon it. Stop feeding your bio-load the vodka and it will die off meaning that your ammonia and nitrites will spike through the roof killing all life your tank.
Since your country prohibits alcohol it is an extremely risky move for you to make. A better method to modify your bio-load would be a coil denitator or an algae turf scrubber. Just my .02

This is absolutely not true, people we need to be able to substantiate information we give out as being absolutely true. I for one have dosed for extended periods of time and then stopped to monitor the results without incidence

I also stopped once I started, the risk was just too great IMO. You have to have a really good skimmer to vodka dose and know how to really keep a watch on oxygen and CO2. I really don't think a newbe should even try it. I'm really sorry to hear about your tank..I hope you try again and leave out the quick fixes.
Edit: Not that you are new..but in case somebody is reading and thinking about it who is.

I have not personally stopped my dosing schedule.
My take on it would be as long as you have a good filtration method of removing the dead and or dying heterotrophic bacteria from the system there should not be a problem. I will do some more research in this area just for our knowledge.

i will if you will stop bogarding that joint
,
Now about dosing the op stated that he has been dosing for only 4 weeks. If so I do not think that there would be a large enough bio mass produced to cause a crash if said biomass was not harvested. Remember we are looking at nitrate reduction and increased coral growth and coloration with dosing not taking out something that would crash our tanks
